Spring Plaice marks. South coast/solent

Hi,

I'm planning on going after the plaice next month, anyone know or can recommend marks in the solent which might be worth drifting? Heard that the 'blocks' of southsea can be good and Ryde sands? I say next month, is this a little early or is April the prime month?

Cheers,
James

Don't know if you trail or are moored. If you trail go to Portland and launch at Ferrybridge, brilliant plaice fishing off the Shambles. Go to 02.20W 50.30.90 N on the ebb and drift. If you are moored it's a bit of a treck but worth it.
Also good for turbot and Brill a bit later, say june. Good luck.
Jules.

A belated P.S.....I don't know how big your boat is but please be very carefull of getting close to the portland races. They are very dangerous and can only be covered at slack tide which can last for only a few minutes. BIG bass but not worth risking a life for. Just don't do it.....ooh but the bass are so big!!!
Don't. Jules.

Hi Solent,

Set a drift up between the west winner and blocks about half a mile offshore,
west winner is a sand bar on Southsea side of Langstone entrance.

Hi John,

I set that very drift up that 3 weeks ago and blanked. I tried various distances from the shore and it looked perfect - banks gulleys, sand and gravel patches etc but think it may have been too early back then. It was before all the reports of Plaice came flooding in. Plan on trying again in a couple of weeks.

James

Hi James,
you are keen.. it was a tad early, leave it till mid April and they should start showing in numbers.

The boats all start chasing Smuts and Bream from May onwards and that mark will be empty(almost) but the plaice will still be there.
