| Re: Anyone use Rubby Dubbies these days? I suppose dubbies are used in the clearer waters around our coast where the mackerel are plentiful. It becomes expensive if you have to buy stuff to mash up, and in the summer the macky only seem to come up as far as Nash in any quantity so catching enough to freeze down for winter bait would be hard enough. I`ve not got any experience of summer fishing in the boat yet so i`m probably talking through my ar*e. So do you keep all sorts of bits and pieces of bait from fishing sessions then and just chuck them in a bucket until ready to use? ....how long can you keep that stuff? __________________ Andy. ------------------- Treat each day as your last, one day you`ll be right. |

| Re: Anyone use Rubby Dubbies these days? Your right in what your saying about the macky not usually coming much further than the nash, but if like me you tow the boat to other marks further west that is'nt a problem. Put in a short session for the macky and freeze any eccess. If you then take some fishing and it does,nt get used do'nt sling it grind it up in an old mincer or freeze whole and dice it up on that or another trip. As for the other baits all i would say is as you strip your hooks to refreshen your bait put the old stuff in a bucket and feed it in when the tide is easing and it's going to make bottom within a reasonable distance from the boat rather than just sling it over the side when the tide is honking through and it hits bottom about a mile away from your boat. This is all basic stuff and can be done with anything that you use as bait, there is also the other scenario of mashed bait in a swimfeeder and tying pieces new or old to your lead, but thats all to achieve the same aim. |

| Re: Anyone use Rubby Dubbies these days? Once again there are slipways at both places that you ask about . The one at ogmore is for the rnli use only as far as i'm aware and the one at southerndown i have no info on at all. Even if you could use one or both these slips unless you launch a couple of hours before HW they would both mean a beach launch. These areas in summer are also very busy with people on the beach and parkings always going to be a problem unless you get there early. I'm afraid the amount of launch sites available to us along our coast up to the area's you mention is very poor, restrictive in one way or other or non existant. |

| Just to get back on thread, we used rubber dubby on sunday and the skipper used a Plastic carrier bag with a weight tied on the bottom of the outside. attatched it to a rod and line. He then turned it inside out and filled it with old bits of bait fish bits etc, dropped it over the side the pressure of the water kept the weight and rubba dubby inside on the way down, he just touched bottom gave the rod a good old yank and hey presto bait deposited on the bottom no problem!! It worked cos we all caught boat loads of fish. __________________ Eventually all things merge into one, and a River runs through it.
