fishing in the atlantic

Dear fishing freinds,

I am going on a sailing trip to the azores on june the 27th,we leave at falmouth and i would like to know the best way to catch good edible fish?
the boat we are sailing on is a contessa 26(26 foot) so not much room but there are only two of us so a rod could be used.
It would be great if someone advised us on either using a hand held line or a rod, whichever would catch the best range of fish.
many thanks,matt

really dont want to attract any sharks as i might want a swim!

Re: fishing in the atlantic

Hi

Welcome to the forum

I have sailed a small bit and I found it was best to take a rod and line with you with some mackerel feather

If you are in slack wind, then drop down the feathers and see what happens - I would always manage to get some lovely fresh fish for the crew - if slow bait the feathers

A little tip is that when in port do a little fishing in the marina before going a shore get some nice fish

Re: fishing in the atlantic

maybe its not sunfish and im getting confused
sea turtels do as well because you hear storys about people in survival crafts catching then and catching fish from the surface, i seem to remember watching a program where some1 was in a survival craft and had a spear gun (donno why) and he caught fish untill he made a hole in the boat

Re: fishing in the atlantic

i think tuna might be abit hard to get cause they usualy so big, you dont have to bait mackerel feathers
i dont have a clue about make or type of harpoon guns but i think it would be pritty fun having ago, my uncle had a pneumatic 1 which he brought from a car boot sale but after a little while it stoped working cause of the piston or sumthign
