Question The Holiday boat angler

Hello i'm the sea anglers nightmare a course angler that dabbles at sea fishing.
I'm booked for a few days in corwall at the end of the month and would like to get out on a charter boat (on my todd so hoping for a friendly skipper) What can i expect to go for bearing in mind i'll probably be sailing from falmouth and what tackle should i have. I have 30 and 50 lbs gear but no uptiding gear. Any info would be appreciated.

Re: The Holiday boat angler

30-50 gear will be just right ,uptiding gear is only useful upto 80ft in depth.Welcome to the forum......

Smile Update

Well i never did get out on a boat the weather was to rough all week so armed with a cpl of 12FT broom handles (reliably informed these were called rods )and having asked a cpl of locals i headed off to the beach . Praa sands was my destination where i was told the odd bass was coming out .nightfall was on its way a low tide and a heavy surf i was optimistic all i had to do was cast 150 Yds Which thinking if you guys can cast 300yds i should be able to reach 150 yds without to much problem. So setting my rod up i tied a shock leader to my 15lb braid and launched 4oz of lead into the sunset i estimate it got a whole 30 yds before i heard a loud crack and the lead dissapeared to meet poseidon and never be seen again. Not wanting this to happen again (line tangled on reel )i reset it and paced out 200 yds on the beach and relaid the line. (who was i kidding) launched it about 60 yds and waited. 10 mins and a sharp tap on the rod only to find i'd caught mother earth and lost the lot again.eventually got sorted fished for 4 hours into the night to catch 1 bit of seaweed.
Not wanting to be beaten i drew up a new plan of attack for my second attempt (family now getting fed up with me asking every angler in sight) i decided to fish Coverack harbour wall , no need to cast into the horizon deep water at 50 yds. First cast resulted in a huge snag again yet the guy next to me was telling me it was sand . Still i'm the enthusiastic novice noddy i try again now i'm getting a little more success i've baited up 2 rods sun is setting tide is still going out though but who cares. its time for a coffee next thing i've got slack line , ITS a FISH winding like crazy i winch to shore (you cant call a big fixed spool a reel its a winch in disguise )i have my first cornish fish a pollack of about 1 1/2 lb not big enough to feed my kids let alone the family it was duly released back to the deep i fished through to midnight but not much more happened had a pout about 6 inches that had been gutted for me before it reached the bank , suspect a bass but never saw it and a few bits of driftwood but went home happy the cornish fish didnt beat me but i'll concede a draw . BUt beware i'll be back.

Closing note ... HOW do you cast 200 yds with a fixed spool reel , I'm not a total fool but i did well if i reachd 80 yds. If anyone wants to demonstrate call me up i'll be back to some shore or other coz living as far from the sea as you can get it dont matter which way i drive.
