Question Johnson 25HP fuel mix??

Hello All,
Im just starting out and have to ask about the mix for ny Johnson 25Hp (1981), is it 50:1 or something else? Can anyone tell me if I have made a good choice in buying a Johnson, its been well looked after, and ive just had it serviced by an engineer, and all is fine apparentely. But have they got any niggley things that go wrong with em?

Cheers

Re: Johnson 25HP fuel mix??

My Evinrude 25 HP 1981 is 25:1 petrol/oil mix. The Evinrude and Johnson are virtually identical with parts being interchangeable.

The mixture recommendation is shown on a label inside the top cover.

I don't know of any problems, they are reliable and well thought of.

Re: Johnson 25HP fuel mix??

Hi ther, I have been running a johnson outboard for years, they are good engines, parts are easy to get and not so expensive as some other engines. I use a 50.1 mix, but its a 75bhp. i also have a mariner 115 thats a pain in the A++. the johnson was used by the navy and the RNLI for a long time so they can,t be to bad can they.

Re: Johnson 25HP fuel mix??

the fuel mix is 50to1, if the engine as not been ran for sometime, cut the mix down a bit after engine frees up. But 1st trip is a 50.1 mix. this information is from the johnson site. Hope this helps, terry

Re: Johnson 25HP fuel mix??

All Johnson/Evinrude engines run on 50:1. Some have stickers on that say to run them on 100:1, but these instructions should be ignored. Running the engine too lean could lead to melting a piston. The only OMC engines that ran on a different mixture were pre 1960, I think, which had different bearings in them. They run on a 24:1 mix.

I have owned plenty of Johnson/Evinrude engines and rate them very highly.
