Re: Reel recommendations

Shimano Charter Special TR-2000LD had one for years ( 10 + )

Great reel solid as a rock can easliy cope with wrecking ect great all round reel

Not to big not to heavy and not to small

Just run it under the tape after fishing and will last years mate

Re: Reel recommendations

Hi Sparky,

I have used Abu 7000's for fifteen years plus now and cannot fault them. They can be easily serviced by yourself and parts are readily available from Abu themselves. They can be used for downtiding, uptiding and beachcasting. In general a more useful reel than the Charter Specials.

The Shimano Charter Specials are also an excellent reel, however, until someone proves me wrong, a difficult reel to service.

If anyone has an old Charter Special or any other Shimano reel that is useless and lying around the garage I would be grateful if they would contact me. I would love to take it apart just to have a look.

Cheers

Drew

Re: Reel recommendations

You don't really explain what you mean by most situations. Are you fishing freshwater or saltwater? What type of experience do you have? What action type do you like? Those are all important questions to take into account. If you want to use a spincasting rel for all freshhwater and light saltwater, I will recommend the Zebco 404 any day!

Sorry, perhaps could have been more specific.
looking for a reel, perhaps lever drag capable of 20-30lb+ cod/pollock and the occassional congor in deep water wrecks and reefs. really looking for a reel that could handle this type of fishing without going to something larger than required.

Charter special of penn 320LD is looking favorable at the moment

Re: Reel recommendations

I have a Abu 7000, great reel but the handle is alittle small and I like the idea of the lever drag,
Thanks for your opinions guys.
