| Re: where to go ? round isle of wight area Quote:
Most boats go round the edge of the Island beyond Bembridge to Culver Spit or further out onto the grounds around the Nab. Typically a 25 to 30 mile round trip from Gosport. There are inshore marks further east off Chichester. You could try night fishing I guess, but I've never heard that it makes much difference to the cod in deep water and you are either close to or actually IN the tanker routes out there. In a small boat with no radar and virtually no radar reflection you'd be taking a big risk. Cod have been a bit thin on the ground in the last few seasons but you can also expect open ground conger, rays, the odd bass and some good sized whiting and pout as well as dogs. Big squid baits on Pennel rigs catch most things, baited Hokkais on a light rod around slack water can be a hoot with the whiting. Steve |
