Clover Report !

Well what can I say - my first ever charter day out and what a top bunch of chaps to go with.

Day started really early with leaving Chepstow at 4. 45am and jong my old man for th trip down to Clovelly. Arrived down there at 8ish to meet Smoothound, Kiwi and Rich for a good days fishing - skipper arrived on his bike wearing his life jacket !!

Out we went and fishing for makeral by 9am - the 3 organised fishermen - Rich, Smooth and Kiwi had makeral on board before me and my old man even had our lines out !! Still after half an hour we had over 20 makeral so off we went for bass session with high hopes.

Arrived at the mark in fiece running tides and off the rocks - Rich and Smoothie sent to the bow to grab the mooring - what a laugh that was but suprisingly successful and we were under way for the bass. To cut a long story short - we had no bass but the skipper had 3 - 8Lb, 5Lb and 2LB - local kowledge eh ?!!

We then shot off for some rough ground fishing after pollack and especially black bream. Whilst there the skip cooked up 14 fresh makeral with corgette and rosemary - what can I say - sat there eating fresh makeral, fishing and having a top laugh in brilliant waether. The old man had a few scad ( I think ) and Kiwi had a nice pollack which went back.

After that we went off for a drift over a wreck and then anchored over it. First drift we all had pollack and it was my first one ever - about 4LB so pretty chuffed really. Smoothie had the biggest at 5.7LB and in all we brought home about 14 pollack all of reasonable size.

Fish species caught on the day - very aggressive bull huss ( Smoothie and pretty big ), many dogs, scads, makeral and pollack.

Returned to port at 7 for a well earned beer in the pub next to the harbour.

Had a fantastic time and will expect the same weather, skipper and fish when I next go on a charter - after all - you are gauranteed all these good things arent you .............................

Re: Clover Report !

Nice report Tommy, sounds like you all had a good day. Look forward to some pics

Seems a bit cheeky that the skip went and caught 3 bass to 8lb, while you all suffered, hehe
