Urgent Help Please

Hi Folks,

I am trying to locate a Charter boat located on the South Coast, possibly Dimchurch. The skipper, I think is called Jeff.

On the other hand, can anyone please tell me where I can find out if there is such a boat. Would it have to registered and if so where, any help would be appreciated.

Thank you.

Drew

Re: Urgent Help Please

Hi Paul,

I've tried the tackle shops and the skippers of boats that have appeared in advertisements, to no avail.

I am now rying to find out, where and if who, these charter skippers have to register with. I was sure that someone on the Forum would know.

If the worst comes to the worst I will find out from a charter skipper. I was also hoping that someone may have seen it.

Cheers

Drew

Re: Urgent Help Please

You could try the top uk charter boat site.

www.charterboats-uk.co.uk

Listings can be searched by boat or skippers name.

or another possibility is

www.deepsea.co.uk

Good luck !!!......

Re: Urgent Help Please

Hi Charter Skipper,

The Forum is a last resort, as explained I have tried nearly everywhere without success.

What I am trying to find out is Must all Charter Boats register with local authorities or anyone else, or is it just a case of buying a boat and taking up to 12 people on fishing trips? The boat in question is called "Abracadabra"

As I have said any help would be appreciated.

Cheers

Drew

Re: Urgent Help Please

From comments made to me I am fairly certain they have to register. I think the regisration covers number of crew, passengers and distance they can go out.

Re: Urgent Help Please

Looked it up, all small boats for hire have to be licenced with the Marine and Coastguard Agency, 0870 6006505 www.mcga.gov.uk

Re: Urgent Help Please

Fred is right.

ALL vessels launched in Torbay have to be registered, so I imagine it will be the same with most other authorities.

Try the nearest Harbour Master to the location.

Re: Urgent Help Please

The boats are inspected under the MCA code of practice regulations, however there are numerous certification authorities.Consequently not all boats are registered with the MCA only with the various certifying bodies.Skippers are not required to be registered anywhere, only requirement is they have the correct RYA qualifications to cover them for certain distances. The number of passengers is again governed by the boat and the code of practice that it is inspected under.Again there are 4 different codes they are inspected under depending on intended use and size.

Not much help for you in finding the boat you need ,but i hope this clarifies the extremly complicated rules that charter boat operate under. There is no one governing body that controls the whole situation unfortunatly. So no one you can ask yuor question to really.

Have you tried seeing if the guy you want is registered with the Professional Boatmans Association...or the national Federation of Charter Skippers ???
