Re: Bassing round Exmouth & Teignmouth Hi guys, Yes I will certainly be going out in the next week or so! Minor problem with engine at the moment so waiting for marine engineer to fix it, damn thing. I haven't checked the tides for the next two weeks yet, rising towards springs seem to be best and early mornings even better. (I hate getting up normally but if its to go fishing its worth it!). As I'm self employed I normally go weekdays to avoid the crowds but I can do weekends if that suits you better, be nice to have some company. My parents live in Teignmouth and my Dad has his own boat so I get reports about whats about, so far very little as the water temp is still only 50 degrees. That said there are a few and someones got to catch them! I'll check with my tide table and get back to you, if you go out in the meantime let me know how you get on. I did go out early april and all I caught were some foul hooked sandeels! Tight lines Nimue

Ok Tommy, It takes me a while to get my head round things these days, I guess living through the sixties does that to you! Checked out the tides and the best one seems to be the 21st May. 8.39am 3.5 metres. Thats a friday, means getting afloat at 6.30am for me as I have a drying mooring and can only fish 2 hours each side of high tide. Water should be warmer which can only be good. I'll bring a mate to fish with and I think it would be a great experiment if we fished different baits on each boat. Maybe you can go with the traditional live sandeel and we will go with bits of metal! Any other boats want to join in with other baits? Peeler crab for instance? Fly fishing? Could be an eye opener! If weekdays are a problem the saturday isnt much smaller but it is falling which can be a bit difficult. How on earth fish can tell its 10 cms smaller is beyond me but they can. Anyhow I guess you have a radio, Whats your ships name? Nimue

Re: Bassing round Exmouth & Teignmouth Nimue, Alrite mate - our boat is called the Thomas Harold. Havent used a radio very much but if you let me know what channel you are on Ill call you up that day and we can meet. I will see if I can get the day off work that day and we will aim to be on the water by 6. 30 like you - if we can be there what about if we meet out by the Pole Sands or are there better areas more suited for bass ? Let me know and Ill confirm whether we can be there as well - by the ways the real name ? Tommy __________________ So near yet so far - Wembley 2008 - Zideered Right Up !

Re: Bassing round Exmouth & Teignmouth Hi Tommy, My name is Jules and my son will probably come too, he's Chris. Pole sands just outside Teignmouth entrance can really produce the goods, but it is early in the year. If no joy the sea side of thatcher rock off torquay can fish well or the wreck of the Galacia between Exmouth and Teignmouth if it isnt covered in divers. My big engine hasnt been fixed yet but im sure it will be soon. Fingers crossed! Will keep in touch. Jules. Pray to your god for good weather!

Jules, Funny you should say that - our Mercury 60 has started emmitting an emergency siren so hoping to get it out of the water this weekend and get looked at next week - I guess its a case of fingers crossed all round. No doubt the weather will be considerably worse that this weekends forecast !! We'll take a couple of bassing rods then and our rods for going over the wrecks - and we can be ready for any eventuality !! What boat have you got Jules ? Looking forward to the trip - weather and engine permitting ......... __________________ So near yet so far - Wembley 2008 - Zideered Right Up !

Re: Bassing round Exmouth & Teignmouth Tommy, Good luck with your engine...high pitched siren is normally overheating and can just be weed or plastic bag over intake. My boat is a Shetland 535, blue hull, cream topsides. I had my Yam 55 stolen last year and had to replace it with smaller force 40, still goes alright but its not the same! Looking forward to catching some BASS. cheers Jules

Re: Bassing round Exmouth & Teignmouth Sorry to mess everyone around but can't do friday! Can and will do thursday instead. High tides around 8 so if I leave home at 4.30 should be on the water by 6. Hope the weather holds as early mornings on days like today are fantastic. Engine vet promises to do my engine monday so heres hoping. I'll be listening on Chanels 16 and 6 so call me on 6 if you can make it and if I haven't called you first. Are you going to try and bring some live sandeels? I have tried them in the past but with little success, I also find lures catch a bigger range of fish inshore ie garfish, mackerel, gurnard, pollack, wrasse and on one strange day a dab! Not foul hooked either. Fish are weird. Another option would be to go out on the ebbing tide and fish it all the way down then up again: would mean a later start and more fishing time. If you can make it let me know which is your preference Regards, Jules
