Re: Bassing round Exmouth & Teignmouth

not a boat fisherman myself but followed this thread as my area
heres a link re allowable fising areas(exe etc) etc
as I wanted to know regs about bass from the shore
good news for me but not for boats
http://gorp.away.com/gorp/activity/saltfaq/saltf_03.htm
(dont know wether any good for you guys)
mind you its easier to find rocking horse droppings than to catch them from shore

Re: Bassing round Exmouth & Teignmouth

Hi Tommy,
So sorry you missed out by a single day!
As it stands at the moment my next trip will be tuesday 1st june. Another good tide but quite late in the afternoon 6pm i think which means getting afloat at about 3.30 and fishing till about 7.30.
As the water is still warming up I'm really getting fired up about this years fishing. My big engine still wasn't fixed for last trip so went out using 3.5hp back up motor which only gives me 6mph. Hence we stayed on pole sands, didn't matter as it turned out!
Am assured it will be fixed for next trip (as usual) so can try further afield for a bigger stamp of fish.
Looking forward to it, fishing gets me through life!
Regards Jules

Re: Bassing round Exmouth & Teignmouth

Jules,

Sounds good to me mate - our boat is raring for action now so I will do my best to get down on your next scheduled trip. Wot bait / lures did you use for the macky and bass - Im hoping to get down this week and was going to try jelly worms, sandeel and some crab !

Is it usually good over by the Orestone / Thatchers Rock for bassing etc ?

Cheers mate

Re: Bassing round Exmouth & Teignmouth

Tommy,
We're still on for tuesday pm. Used a very simple flat silver bar for all my fish. best bass went for a weird green with silver flecks jelly lead head. Probably because it was heavy enough to get through the mackerel.
Will be joined by Mackerel Matt again this coming trip, he caught the biggest bass last time and needs to be put in his place (tied to the anchor!).
Hoping for continued good weather, and as bait sellers will be open when we arrive this time will try to get some sandeels. OHH am I looking forward to it!
Regards Jules

Re: Bassing round Exmouth & Teignmouth

Mackeral Matt
ok ok ok ok so I didn't catch a bass last trip, did you have to tell everyone?
Remember people can fall overboard and never get found. Today is my day, the wind may make us stay in the estuary and the fishing is harder there so experience will count.
Tommy if you're out today I'll give you a call on channel 6....listen out.
Mackeral or myself will post details on our return.. it's gonna be another blinda
Regards Jules

Re: Bassing round Exmouth & Teignmouth

Hi Tommy,
Sorry we missed each other again. If anyone can explain how we can go out to the same place a week apart on similar tides and weather and have such hugely different results , please get in touch!
OK so we did see a seal on Pole sands but surely that can't scare every fish away from the area? We went out about 3 miles to a patch that often fishes well...nothing. Pole sandbank...Nothing. Over in front of the Ness...Nothing. Along the boats in the estuary...nothing.Whats going on? We did find some under the bridge and I had a brief hookup with something substantial but it wasn't going my way yesterday and it came off!! Only a week before we had to add weights to the lures to get them down fast enough through the mackerel to the bass.
This here fishing lark is very weird.
Hope you have a great time friday fraid I can't make it. Hope to go out sunday but more of a boat trip than fishing trip as my youngest daughter and freinds are coming out. (bound to wet a line though, I mean, its rude not to)
Cheers Jules.
P.S. Mr mackeral the score is gonna change very soon!!!
