Wind Speeds and Charter Cancelations

first post on this great board, hope you're a friendly bunch..

Going out on a general trip on sunday from Rhyl North Wales. Mainly aiming for decent plaice, any recomendations for end tackle/baits. Normally use a flattie rig with size 2's and a small strip of squid or rag.

When do the mackerel normally show ?

Any ideas at what wind speed charter boats normally pull the plug on a trip and is it down to the skipper or port authorities wether they go out or not.

Any midlands guys up for a bit of flattie bashing in NOrth Wales or liverpool areas shout up and lets get some trips organised.

Re: Wind Speeds and Charter Cancelations

This would be my chosen choice for Plaice fishing from the boat. Ive got a few made up already just incase the wind dies down by about 14 knots.
eh boys!!!

Re: Wind Speeds and Charter Cancelations

Hi Kidsgrove,

It's all down to the skipper and the type of boat he has.

One of my skippers will go out on a 5 if it is decreasing, most of the others will call off it it is 5 i.e. 3 - 4 maximum.

Cheers

Drew

Cool Re: Wind Speeds and Charter Cancelations

Hi Kidsgrove and Welcome to the Forum

I am from Rhyl in North Wales originally

But back to thread....skippers make there decision based upon type and size of boat.

Most skippers will not go out if wind speed is above force 4, but I have been out in stronger winds on large boats that have headed for sheltered anchorage.

It is advisable to arrange to ring the skipper the night before, just after the shipping forecast/ inshore waters forecast and he will tell you if it is on or off.

As to flattie rigs there is a thread started for the 4th May forum boat trip that will give you some ideas.

Plaice Thread

And I did a piece on a Flattie rig:

Smoothy Wishbone Rig

I hope this helps.
