Plaice Meet Update. Dartmouth 4th May.

Hi folks,

Sorry this update has been a long time in coming but it’s finally here.

Confirmed as going

Marty. (KiwiMarty)
Mark. (Pross)
Dave. (Pinguprogress)
Pete. (Blackthorn)
Kev. (Wellyfish)
Dave. (Devondave)
Nigel. (Pixybasher)
Ty. (Tjnorton)

Gear/Tackle

12lb – 15lb class boat rods.
Carp and estuary rods are good and OK as long as they are no more than 12’ in length.

Now this is important. Use only the watch style leads. 4 – 6oz are all that are needed. Use no other style of lead and heavier leads are also not needed.

For those of us wanting to make rigs before we go, here is the best set up.
Traces should be 6 – 8 feet in length (Clear, not coloured). Feel free to add 4 -5 coloured beads with a small silver attracter. If you want to add more beads that too is ok but remember add too many and it will give the rig flotation which will lift the rig/hook off the bottom, so add a little shot. Those wanting to add spoons are ok but whatever you add to the trace also heightens the risk of tangles with others. Hook size should be 1/0. Please keep to single hook traces and remember simplest is best.

Bait

Rag/Squid/Peeler. I will order Rag and Squid from Torbay Angling. This will be 3lb of Rag and 2 boxes of squid. I will leave the peeler crab up to the individual to purchase before hand as I don’t think it is necessary. Please bring extra money to cover my outlay on the bait.

If the trip is cancelled by the skipper due to the weather etc, I will refund everyone’s money less the bait costs, as this will need to be paid for regardless of the weather. I hope everyone agrees and understands this.

Where to board the boat.

This time of year the best place for him to pick us up will be on the Kingswear side of the river. This is the best option due to the parking. Mark, I'm not sure which side you are staying. If you are Dart side please let me know as Dave can still pick you up over there but I would suggest you get dropped off and come over on the passenger ferry.

We have an option to fish from 08.00 – 16.00 or from 08.30 – 16.30. Please let me know if anyone wants to set off at 08.30 as I’m sure that the 08.00 is ok for the majority.

Directions

Head towards Brixham on the Torbay ring road. Turn right just passed The Weary Ploughman pub signed for Kingswear/Dartmouth. Turn left for the lower ferry and drive right down to the river. On the right, drive through the archway for the car park. Board the boat from the passenger ferry jetty.

Dave the skipper is looking forward to our trip with him. He has had a tough winter with the wreak fishing due to these damn prevailing east winds but says that the fishing has been fantastic when he has been able to get out.
Those who have fished with him before will know that he is great skipper who is only too willing to help. Those of you that haven’t fished with him yet, will be in for a top days fishing.

Well I hope that this has answered all your questions. Here’s to a successful days fishing.

Kiwi.
