Ugly stick or powerstix

Can anyone tell me which is the better boat rod. The 20/30lb ugly sick braid or the 20/30lb penn powerstix pro braid. The penn is a fiver cheaper, is lighter and comes with a hard case so I was leaning towards that. If the ugly stick is a better rod I would get that. I think it looks better but looks dont mean much. I just want to get the best rod for my money.
I'm hoping to get a day on the charter boat Lousie Jane when I'm home next and this time I definetly want to use my own gear.
Thank you for any help.
All the best.
Jason

Re: Ugly stick or powerstix

Both great rods , with only a fiver in it ,the tube might sway your decision . Will you be using braid all the time and not mono ????

Braid rods are designed for fishing with braid (staeing the obvious ) .and have a softer action ,because of the non stretch properties of braid , using mono with a braid rod ,makes for a spongy experiance ,soft rod + stretchy mono = very little feel of whats going on ...

Re: Ugly stick or powerstix

Hi Mike,
I'm going to use braid all the time. I hope its sensitive enough to use for small fish but man enough for any lunkers that might come along. I want an all rounder realy. I have a 12/20 Powerstix but when I spoke to one of the skippers he said 20/30 IS better as with tje strong tides, he recommended using 10 or 12oz with 30LB braid. It was me that said I wanted to use braid to start with.
Cheers.
Jason

Re: Ugly stick or powerstix

My wife loves the ugly stick, its lasted her 20years and she still yells every time!!!
I am so in love with them and I am going to puchase my third soon.
I am fortunate to have a garden center at Hassocks that flogs them for a very reasonable price, sooooo let me know how much you can get one for, i will see if i can do better!!!

Hi CC,
Spotty dog tackle are selling it for £59.99 I was all set on the powerstix but wjen I found the ugly stick for that its made it hard to choose.
I read a review on planet sea fishing that said the last 6 eyes have only one leg (sounds a bit flimsy) so I have emailed spottydog and asked. If they are I will gey the powersitx.
Its hard work with so many rods all the same price for doing the same job.
There is the salt braid as well. I like the shore rods but diddnt like the look of the boat one.

Re: Ugly stick or powerstix

I have ordered the ugly stik!
Should be here next week. Hope to use it the following week.
Also heard today that a 22lb 8oz cod was caught on the Royal Charlotte last week. I can't wait to go now!
Tight lines.

Re: Ugly stick or powerstix

Im all set for a days boat fishing tomorrow. I was booked on the Louise Jane but the Skipper cancelled so I have got a place on the Royal Charlotte with Mick Coker. 3rd time onboard. Good to have a plan B!

One of the guys from work has wanted to go with me for a while now. He gave me an old rod and reel to take my boy Mackeral bashing a couple of years ago, I have been hooked since.
He fished on the Portia 30 years ago Skippered by Mick Cokers oldman!

I have got my own boat gear now. I will be doing a fair bit of boating this year.
I went for the uglystik and am very happy with it.
Its very light and slim!
Heres some pics.

I got the Uglystik Classic Braid as opposed to the Uglystik Braid pictured below....Confusing!!?
