Royal Charlotte

I went on board the Royal Charlotte Skippered by Mick Coker with my Mum and Fishypaul. It cost £40 per head, all gear and bait supplied.
We headed out to the Varne Ridge and used hokai rigs with the bottom hook baited with lug. Mick rationed rolled black lug on each drift and said use it sparingly! We had brought 2 score along with us otherwise the bait would have a bit sparse .
During the first couple of drifts there were plenty of Mackerel and a few codling coming up with a few red gurnard in the mix as well. After a while we steamed what seemed like quite a while into clearer water where we were catching mostly whiting of a reasonable size and a few small pouting with Mackerel and gurnards as well, I see a couple of tub gurnards caught but didn’t catch one myself.
As the day went on it was pretty steady fishing but nothing big coming up. Towards the end of the day a few more codling were caught. I never hooked one though, much to my disappointment. Fishypaul had 3 and my Mum had 2, they were either side of me and I didn’t get any .
I did manage to catch a few species for the hunt, Scad and red gurnard. I have filled the freezer with Mackerel as well so I am happy anyway.
My mum gave me one of her codling so I will be having that for tea tonight.
I hope to go again in October and would recommend it to anyone.
