| Boat tackle Im going on board the Royal Charlotte out of Dover next week and was thinking about using my own gear. I have a penn power stick 20lb rod and a sl20sh with 160m of 60lb braid or I have 200m of 20lb braid I could put on it. Would that set up be ok? Im not too sure of what rigs to use. I have got plenty of shads I could use and wanted to try some bait as well. We will be drifting over the Varne banks, there is a few wrecks there as well. Not too sure of what sort of wieghts I would need, any advice apprieciated. Last time I went I used the boats gear which was a 30lb class rod with a fox oceanmaster reel loaded with heavy mono. we used glow in the dark muppets with a large pirk. I caught mackeral, bass, horse mackeral, gurnard, sand eels and sand weavers. that was about this time last year. Will I be better off just doing that again? Thanks. | Re: Boat tackle I use a 12/20lb uptider for wrecking and have taken fish over 25lb on it ( plus larger tope and eels from inshore marks ) and use a slosh 30 ... If you are drifting the banks then you want a simple running ledger consisting of enough lead to hold bottom and 4 or 5 foot of 20-30lb clear mono with a 3/0 hook .. ( smaller if the species dictate ) Pirk fishing is my speciality and is only any good on small tides as you need to fish them almost vertical .. use jellies and shads on a french wire boom - trace length upto 8 foot - 25lb clear mono , 10 ounce lead .. Half a mackerel fillet hooked once through the thin end if there are flatties about on the running ledger... 4 inch shads, 6 inch firetail worms or sidewinders on the wrecks for pollack - yellow and orange if theres cod about mate .. __________________ Shore Species 2012: Dab-Flounder-Herring-L.S.Dogfish-Pouting-Shore Rockling-5 Bearded Rockling-Small Eyed Ray-Turbot-Whiting |

| Re: Boat tackle Cheers S&M, I will give the skipper a call nearer the time. It sounds like I need to buy quite alot, I might be better off using his gear again and picking a few bits up as I go for next time. Cheers.
