| Help needed Hello all, im new here and need a little help. I used to fish years ago out of Eastbourne for placie and bits but have forgotten whats involved to be honest. I have got hold of a diawa 30lb class down tider ( not sure what reel to put with it as budget is tight?) what sort of line should i be looking at here? I have also got hold of a cheap uptiding rod and have got a abu ambassador 6000 reel to go with that and have loaded that with 30lb fireline... is this ok? Thanks in advance. All help apprerciated. Regards Clint |

| Re: Help needed welcome clint, on the info given - first I would get some nice 18 - 20lb mono and load the 6000 with that, putting the 30 lb fireline aside as the perfect line for the downtiding rig...... that only leaves an appropriate reel for the downtiding set. Whilst budget is always an issue this is probably the most important piece of gear (OK so are hooks/snoods etc but...) in this rig if you ever hook into a decent fish; and there are plenty of rays, conger, tope and cod that will give you a good tussle out there in your waters. Personaly going out and buying one today I would go here and get either the Fladden Warbird size 45 @ 35 squid or the Chieften Wrecker 5/0 @ 50 folding ones. order your mono whilst you are there and you will make the postage worthwhile. Both these reels have the capacity and strength you need with a 3.8:1 gearing which is a good compromise for downtide work and artificials. Best of luck and tight lines |
