Well this is all dependant on the 14th, but it will be if money allows, a Shakespeare Ugly stick solo 20lb class. I believe that this will be a good all-rounder for me with a good name behind it. As for the reel I will wait and see. I do have an old ABU 7000 which needs a look at by Ian Rose as for some reason the level wind won’t work. This is strange because it will allow me to load line on but if the spool is under any other strain, eg normal use, the levelwind travels to the left but then stays there......Yeah right!!

If I can get that sorted I have a suitable reel.

sounds like the pawl is seized in the cup?
simple to unscrew and check - but if it is then you may have a little more to do to get it out!

the bit that goes backwards an forwards across the bar on the reel has a line guide on top and (normally) a slotted cup on the bottom. The cup hold a small cylinder of metal with a v shaped end that locates in the slot on the bar. This cylinder needs to be free to rotate and change the direction of the v shaped end other wire it's one way traffic.
If I had a digital camera that was working I would post pictures 'cos the above just doesn't read well!!!

Cheers mate. What i will do is dig out the reel and try and follow what you have written. If I fail I shall take it to the reel doctor to get sorted.

My new rod is an Ugly stick spinning rod with little baitcaster reel...looks and feels good.

Don't think you can go wrong with an ugly.

Its a Shakespeare multiplier with magnetic brakes....how does that work with a plastic body! Ummm no scientist myself but you need metal surely? Will try it out and see what happens.

Certainly looks and feels a good reel, will have to try it out down the road.......... more info coming up.
