Re: what boat I am afraid you are right - weekends between April and October are like your worst August in France. However as fishermen, and getting clear of the slip before dawn every time, we survive the launch. However coming back an hour after dark is no guarantee of a clear slip coming back out on a warm summers day! Basically we have far to many trailer boats for the slips on the South coast but as there is no parking anywhere nice anyway (Salcombe etc) slips are the least of the problems!

Re: what boat Terry, Shelley Beach is the beach to the right of the docks as you look out to sea from the docks - just in front of the new flats. The other slipway is around and up this beach but there is a height limit on the bar for access and you can really only use it on a high tide - the water is still pretty shallow over the whole beach area away from the main channel. You can get to the beach via the back streets - follow signs to the docks - then head down the side street and there is an access on to the beach for cars etc. there. This might change cause there were rumours of stopping cars on the beach but hasnt happened yet ! There is also a small hidden car park just by the access which not that many people know about unless they are locals etc. Costs about 3 quid for the day so have a look for this - it will be full with boats at the moment. Simply follow signs to Docks - when you get to the road and start heading into the new houses the entrance is on your right hand side and hidden away. Cheers mate Tommy PS - I ll be down in Exmouth for the next 3 or 4 weekends so if you want any advice or pointers let me know and Ill PM you my mobile. Other than that PM Ping cause he lives there. __________________ So near yet so far - Wembley 2008 - Zideered Right Up !

Re: what boat Hi tommy wish I could take you up on your offer, but the weeks are full of packing and so on, and following orders from her indoors. Maybe taking a smaller boat from shelly beach is the way to go. my aux 25bhp will push it along ok. I have called it a day with working full time so will be able to take it out when others are at work, so maybe ok. whats it like for people nicking gear etc. Its mad here in oxford with people taking anything not nailed down. michael

Touch wood mate there is very little theft - we have been using a drying mooring for a couple of years and as yet not had anything nicked. But you can never be too careful so we have auxilliary locked on and all equipment like rods etc. taken off the boat. May catch up with you in the area - why dont you join our fishing days with Jules over in Teignmouth - only take 20mins to blast over there on a good tide - check out the thread - Tommy - fishing dates please. Cheers mate __________________ So near yet so far - Wembley 2008 - Zideered Right Up !

Re: what boat Hi thanks for that, in bristol and oxford you can,t leave the car out at night without some sod having ago at it. never mind a boat. I have just returned from buying a 16 foot aluminium dory, with 35bhp engine, complete with new bearings and wheels etc on the trailer for the sum of £430 pounds, not to bad. I hope that I will be able use this of the beach, there not being a lot of weight to pull around, its nice and wide, around 7 foot, so will do well I hope, at that money I can always resale. I will be taking you all up on offers later in the year, so look out for the new boy. michael

Re: what boat HI Ping yes having days free is great, what do you do for work???? Do you think the boat will be ok??? It needs a little sorting but not much, just a new set of outboard controls, Its nice and light, so will be ok there, just need to find a few marks. can,t wait to get going, the river fishing has been very bad this year due to high weed levels in the water. michael
