Re: favorite hook

I don't miss many bites but I always fish with relatively small baits simply hung on the bend - a single calamari goes on this hook well but must simply be hooked once though the tip of the mantle; and let the bite develop (fish hook itself!)

Circles are great, self hooking, but must admit never caught a cod on an 8/0 circle, for whitting and bream 4/0 and smaller are the hook to use.
Tassie is right no good on lures.

Re: favorite hook

John,
I will admit that I get funny looks fishing a 2 - 3" strip of cuttle mantle when the guy next to me has 12 calamari on a pennel......but it worked this year in spades.
Best session (mid Jan) saw cod (16+), blondes (to 18) , conger (est 35), whiting, pout and dogs all on that hook/bait.

Re: favorite hook

the one at the beginning of this thread!

comes up about the same as a 4/0 3261 bln but is listed as a 10/0

if you click on properties for the picture the actual Mustad code is shown as I labled the picture from the packet.

It's a Mustad 39960ST 10/0

Last edited by duncan; 02-26-2005 at 07:01 PM. Reason: add code
