Take your boat away for a summer break!

I thought I would make my first post on this forum a big one and invite all of you theat have a trailer boat to an event that our club is running this summer....

BRING YOUR OWN BOAT OPEN WEEKEND
27th and 28th August 2011
Visiting angling boat owners are invited to join us for a weekend of fishing based at the Varne Boat Club at Greatstone near Dungeness in Kent.
Come and be our guest for either or both of the two days and experience superb angling from a fantastic club with fantastic facilities. With lots of holiday accommodation and camping near by and secure overnight boat storage, we will be offering the full facilities of the club to trailer boat anglers who fancy a weekend away or who would like to try out the club to see what its like. Just park up in our private car park and our launch vehicles will do the work. Our members will be doing their best to make your weekend a great one.
Visiting boats should be 14 ft + and outboard powered.

PRE-BOOK, PAY ON ARRIVAL
The idea of the weekend will be “just for fun” but we will be structuring some optional activities depending on the weather. These will include:

FRIDAY 26th
Join us in the bar over looking the Dover Straight for a drink and a chat. Book in early, chill out and look forward to the weekend ahead. 18.00 hrs onwards.

SATURDAY 27th
A Species Hunt - Bring a camera /mobile phone with camera and catch and photograph as many different fish as you can. No big cash prizes but we hope to run a sweep for the most species with one years free club membership as the prize (worth up to £195). Money raised by the sweep will go to the RNLI.
This will run on the Saturday unless the weather makes the Sunday a better bet.
Book in from 06.30, launch 07.30, return to shore by 14.00.
BBQ on Saturday after fishing – The usual fare or cook your catch and enjoy a drink from our bar while you eat. We will provide some extras for those who put their catch back in the sea!

SUNDAY 28th
Pleasure fishing – Go where you like or follow one of our club boats to a local hot-spot. Within easy reach are hundreds of wrecks, excellent rough/open ground fishing as well as the Varne and Bullock banks. The Bar will be open when you get back.
Book in from 07.00, launch 08.00, return to shore by 14.30.

CONTACT
John Ruffhead 07968 751 650. johnruffhead@aol.com

HOW MUCH WILL IT COST?
Guest membership for the weekend will be £20 per boat per day or £35 for the whole weekend. Friday is free once you have booked in.

So my thirteen foot 2 inch Linder 400 is not big enough ! what a bumer.
Not to worry its not ready yet still having its winter refit. I am having trouble fitting the whale cannon to the front, seems to make her a tad front heavy.
So as I cant be there I wish you all a good time great weahter and tite lines.
I will however expect lots of pics and a good write up here on the forum
Cheers Cliff.

If you really wanted to we could sort something out - its just that the smaller boats are more at the mercy of the weather. If its fine then a smaller boat is good. There are a few marks close in. Let me know if you fancy it and I'll come up with something.

Thanks for the offer, I do appreciate it. However due to health challenges I cannot make plans that far ahead. But will be in touch nearer the time if I can make it. Cliff.

Re: Take your boat away for a summer break!

I think we probably could.
We would certainly be able to show you some inshore marks and give you some good local advice. My only concern is that the smaller boats would not be able to go as far as the bigger ones and would be more affected by bad weather.
Apart from that we could accomodate you. My second boat is 13 ft and i get many good bass each year. There are also flatties, mackerel and the usuall 'tings closer in. If the weather is really good you will find a few wrecks within 3-4 miles. You will need at least 100m of anchor rope for that though.

Sounds like a sociable do. You never know, if I can get myself a boat this summer I might come along.

What sort of species are we likely to catch?

Portland Pirate.

You can catch just about anything. We have some good mixed ground fishing with all the usual suspects like bass, bream, smoothhounds, tope, doggies, whiting, plaice, gurnard. We also have hundreds of wrecks with pollack and bass and bream plus huge conger. Out on the banks there are bass, plaice and the odd turbot.
We tend to travel between 1 and 18 miles depending on the weather and what we are after.

Re: Take your boat away for a summer break!

I see what you mean about small boats, I use mine mostly for fly and spinning adventures. If mine turns out to be too small is there a chance of blagging a space on something more suitable?
