cod around portland

where an i go and catch a cod around the portland area tomorrow.I really want to anchor up as its a good tide. we have caught them drifting over the rough ground in the summer,but i want to catch one now at anchor with a big bait on the deck.

so glad nobody replied to my question about cod around portland cause we went out and done our own thing and the biggest cod went 15lb with a nice turbot thrown in aswell when we stopped off on our way in. so cod and chips all round this week.

Hi Greenheart,yeah we caught them on the shambles, what a lovely day flat calm and long slow drifts. why cant the weather be like that every weekend?

Sounds nice mate. It's the shortage of daylight hours that stops me towing the boat down from Wiltshire this time of year.

Fishing out of Weymouth can be fantastic most of the year. But that does depend on what you want to target and which skipper you go out with.

At the moment it is really good for Pollock from the offshore wrecks. It has fished really well for Turbot last year.

I often try this time of year for a big Blonde Ray from the Kidney bank. The main problem with the Kidney bank now is the number of pots on it. I have lost 2 anchors on pots in the past.

I lost my anchor last time out, whatever it dug into it didnot want to come out so it was good bye to a nice CQR anchor, chain and 60mtrs of rope.
Anywhere down that way I can pick up a cheap anchor etc.
