Welshicons weymouth wrecking trip sept 18th

Besides the maiden trip way back in July, which produced over 130 fish , This trip has to be the best for weather wise, calm and not to hot, New species for the charter as well as some pb's for turbot. But also the Company, Mainly workers from Lyons seafood where i work, and kev hussar and Darren from Southampton, who enjoyed the last one so much they return to fish alongside me and my Colourful bright lime green home made rigs which got the tag "xmas TREES". i also ditched the red dyed squid head and tail for 30kg saudi crevettes bait, as well as a tub of squid and octupus bait, with the normal ragworm and Calamari.

It was also my first trip with my new 30lb ugly stick, but was gutted to find that i had left my new slosh30 behind, along with my hat, glasses and sandwich box.

I did have a penn multiplier to try but through the day i realised i had added to much braid to the already spooled mono that reeling in was becoming a problem.

We started off Mackeral fishing just off portland bill, with little reward a dozen were caught, and my six green fearthered"xmas tree" managed just 2.

The duchess 2 skipper then took us to a wreck about 45 minutes away, and we stayed over this wreck all day and it was fishing well. The first fish in was a Bream which was followed by by another 60 through the day. Dave Clarke on his first boat trip in then years catching a 6lb 2 oz just short of beating this years record for a free trip. The usual pouting were pulled in and throw back. My Crevettes were getting noticed pulling in five pouting and one bream, but i was happy to prove that i would catch something with crevettes and my green rigs. I swapped that for conger rigs and advise from Kev Hussar who was having a good session, with three congers- baby conger was followed by mother and then what looked like a 25lber followed all in a hr, and Kev then surprised himself with a 19lb turbot . BEN burville caught the only dogfish, and Frank burville and dave clarke both added tope to thier species count. There were some good sized mackeral coming from the wreck too. My dad seemed to be the pouting king- while les, dale, Henrique and Darren were happy piled up the bream in the catch trays.I ended up conger fishing the last hr with Mackerel heads, watching my rod end twitch, and kev telling me dont strike wait wait dont strike- and wait i did, what ever was down there was getting a bit fussy and before i could defy Kev's wise words, the skipper called time and it was a hour trip back to shore. a pint of cold pear cider in the sailers return with skipper Jeff Clark and Crew member Caroline, who we now have all come to depend on for untangling us and gutting our fish.......... cant wait till October 23rd...
