| Stupid GPS question Chaps who use their boats and gps regularly. Whilst inputting a load of wreck marks etc I just wanted to checkt that Ive done one thing correctly - if the mark is 02 ... ... when I come to enter this on my gps it has three possible digits for the first bit so Ive been entering 002 - and not 020 - would that be correct because surely 02 is the same as 002 and not the latter 020 which is in effect 20 ? | Re: Stupid GPS question 002 is right. thats longitude and the numbers can in theory go up to 180dgress at the int date line as its a distance round the earth from greenwich. The other numbers are latitude and they can only go to 90 degrees at the poles as an angle from the equator so 2 boxes of degrees for the first lot=latitude (sides of the chart) 3 boxes of degrees to fill in for the second lot = longitude (top and bottom of the chart) so a random position could be 54 degrees 32.1 N 003 degrees 12.1 W which is randomly round here in morecambe bay somewhere or other ![]() |
