Re: Celtic Maid - Thurs 12th Well chaps the day started brilliantly - steamed off to the Empress in bright sunshine and very good sea just a little swell but able to hammer down there at 20knt with no problem. Fished this for 2 hours with some smaller pollack around 2 - 3 lb coming up and being released, as we were aiming for bigger stuff out further. Kiwi and Kev chucked some joey makeral down for the bass and bingo Kiwi landed a nice plump one of 3lb. Cheered by this we stayed for a bit longer and got a few more joeys on board - but with Kiwi itching to go to a wreck at 32miles he been told about we steamed off again. We arrived at the mark within the hour no worries only to find the digits he had were wrong and no matter how much we searched there was no large wreck or the promised cod and big pollack - right gutted ! Anyway as fate would have it we steamed back in only for the weather to come down and the winds to pick up making the final 6 miles back to the Empress a rather bumpy and wet affair - just as well we hadnt stayed out at 32 miles - that is fate ! Anyway having tried another small wreck we found nothing at all even though the details were from another charter skipper ! So we ended up back where we started - and guess what - the bass were on the feed and another 2 large bass to 5lb came aboard - we think if we had stayed on the wreck for the day we would have had well into doiuble figures of bass ! To cap my day off I failed in the fishing - hooked into 2 nice bass and both came off on the wind in - guess it wasnt meant to be for me but to see my old man proudly holding his 5lb bass made it well worth while. Moral of the story - dont go to sea without double checking co - ordinates and if your with Kiwi or Kev be prepared to have the piss taken out of you and them all day - a truly superb day out ending with a very very bumpy 18 miles journey back to the marina - 14knt with waves crashing over the top all the way home !!! The Maid looked after us well in the pretty grim conditions as they deteriated and it was a welcome site to see the estuary and land again ! __________________ So near yet so far - Wembley 2008 - Zideered Right Up !

Re: Celtic Maid - Thurs 12th Huge tides lads .. think the cod fishing would have been better around the 19th but well done on the bass ![]() Biggger Pollack from the spring run are harder to find so i guess its either Bassing on the bigger tides or conger ling and cod on the smaller neaps . Live eels and i reckon you could have cleaned the empress of Bass mate __________________ Shore Species 2012: Bugger All !!

Re: Celtic Maid - Thurs 12th Yeah typically its the first time this summer weve missed out on live sandeels as our chap in the dock didnt have any and is finding them hard to get - but 3 bass is not bad and really one more would have been perfect - no need to be greedy eh. So the codding is better on smaller tides is it mate - hoping to head out to a few more wrecks that youve given me in the next few weeks if you fancy joining us ? We ended up going out 32 miles which is ok a very calm day but on a moderate sea its not that much fun for 3 hours - so will look at wrecks around the 20 - 25 miles - much more realistic I think. Cheers Oh and Kev - had a side of dads bass last night between me and Julie - flypin huge bit of fish but absolutely gorgeous - got me bass for the mrs in the end !!! __________________ So near yet so far - Wembley 2008 - Zideered Right Up !
