tommy a has a spectacular aura abouttommy a has a spectacular aura about
And theyre in ...............

Got out yesterday in calm flat seas if a little foggy - first 15mins off Sandy Bay and by the lines of pots once you are through the channel we had 4 large makeral to wet the appetite - rather than stayiong and filling the boat we headed off for 20 miles to Lyme Bay for the Empress.

Fished this and on first 2 drifts we lost four lots of gear - having received advice to get close to the wreck in search of the ling I had a nice bite and decided to leave it for one more knock - you guessed it one more knock was the wreck !! Anyway these two drifts had the wreck absolutely full of fish but no takers on the winders or makeral and muppet - we decided on way back that maybe it was a large shoal of bream maybe as within half an hour they had dissappeared off the finder - anyone any ideas ?

Headed back dissappointed not to have got my life long ambitions ling but in great spirits - slow journey back in thick fog as we made our way back on the gps not by vision - stopped at the Boma for half an hour to try for a conger - no go again and nothing showing but peace and eerily quiet in the fog !

Back into Exmouth safely negotiated the channel and banks and into the docks - not the fish filled day we hoped for after such a good start but a smile that the makeral are back and that each trip is getting better - next aim is for a big conger hunt off a few deeper wrecks on the next neap.

Welly if you are around you are welcome to join us with Marty ?

Re: And theyre in ...............

I wonder when the seafront at Budleigh will start fishing well? :)

I hope to get out on a boat at some point soon.

Re: And theyre in ...............

Tommy make sure you fish the right state of tide on a tide that is suitable ( not springs ) and i'm sure using the method i suggested you will find that double figure Ling...
Though adapted to feed and swim in a fast tide flow, Ling are not stupid and realise that working hard for food minimises it's caloric value. As a general rule, they feed best during smaller neap tides through and either side of the slack water periods of low and high water. Occasionally they will feed during a running tide, but the feeding spell is often very short and probably induced by passing food being available to trigger feeding in the first place.
!

I've fished the Empress and a few of the wrecks around it ( the M2 is one of my faves ) but the mid channel wrecks hold the better fish mate

With regards to leaving it for one more knock .. don't lol.....don't strike or lift the rod tip, just wind like buggery or the fish will head straight into the metal

Re: And theyre in ...............

The M2 is a mahoosive submarine aircraft carrier that sank in the 30 's off Portland .... it can be fished with various drifts and holds some decent pollack , cod ,ling and eels !
I have a list of about 7 or 8 i've fished with numbers to find them - p.m. on the way soon as i have 5 mins Tommy
