Help. Weymouth boat fishing. What fishing tackle do I need?

hello,

In october 2005 I 'll go fishing in Weymouth. The boat will be anchored.
The bait will be mackerel, ragworm and calamares. Throwing is not allowed.
What fishing tackle do I need? Nylon, Braid, hooks, rigs, weight. (name and size please).

Thanks.
Best wishes for 2005.

Thanks,
More information: No wreckfishing, but anchored either on the banks, either on the reefs.

Re: Help. Weymouth boat fishing. What fishing tackle do I need?

Welcome to the fishing forum

Its a hard one to answer

I always give the skipper a ring and ask him the questions , just have a little list in front of you with all your questions i.e hook size leads ect ( Just saves keep ringing him again if you forget a question ) Skippers will always give spot on advice as this is how they make their money

Sounds like it could be a great day out and look forward to reading your post on how the day went

Im sure the fishing forum members from that area will post some info over the next few days

Re: Help. Weymouth boat fishing. What fishing tackle do I need?

Hi Gulle,

I kept my boat at Weymouth for a couple of years and have fished most of the banks and reefs there. I've never heard of a boat anchoring on the banks they are always drifted over, normally with standard flying collar rigs baited instead of lures. 2-3 ozs is all thats needed as it's so shallow.
if you are going out on a private boat that intends to anchor on the Shambles or Adamant bank then I hope the skipper has a lot of local knowledge. The western end of the Shambles in particular can be very treacherous at certain states of the tide. I would never anchor there. Races develop very quickly after the ebb starts to flow. If he mentions anchoring on Portland Ledge then pretend to be ill and don't show up! It's a maelstrom of water at any state of tide.

Sorry to be so negative but I am curious as to what boat you are going out on?

Regards, Jules.
