Silver Lady first trip continues Part 2 of the first launch saga. We have now launched the boat warmed up the engine and are heading down the meni strates from Baumarise to are intended fishing spot, the deep hole just past the swellies. Now lets see how fast SL is. Switch on the hand held GPS set to speedo open throttle and away we go. Nicely on the plane, 10mph 12mph 15mph 15mph 15mph. What only 15mph this set up is rated at around 22knots, stop the engine and check every thing. Only thing found tank vent not opened. would this cause it? open vent try again. Start engine look at GPS, hang on it says we are still traveling at 15mph and have only traveled 100yds. Switch it off and on again still the same, Andrew my son has a look at it. He knows all about these modern contraptions, so after i have shown him how to switch it on' how to navigate the screens, how to remove the batteries, he declares "it's cabaged dad", he knows all the technical expressions. Well that's that, on to the swellis. Now you have to be careful if you don't follow the navigation signs you can get hung on a rock, guess how i know. Well we made it to the mark ok and started to fish. Andrew was into small codling from the off, some two at a time, all went back ok. Me nothing until i hooked this rock fish sometimes called a snag. So motored the boat to try to remove the led the way it went in, Nice bend on the rod careful now, walla, lead came and for some reason my old beloved two piece boat rod is now a three piece boat rod. No! not my loved 20lb class north west boat rod, Ive had it for years. Have to put a brave face on it, " well son I suppose it would only have broke next time I hooked into a goo fish ", " when do you ever hook a good fish dad"" do you wont to swim back son ". So with no spare rod I watched the sky tried to show interest in each wave, my son carried on catching small codling. On the way back I let my son drive, I navigated him through the swellis, then a straight run up to Beaumaris. How ever on the way we passed a much larger boat going in the other direction I expected him to slow for the large wake, he didn't, boy does it hurt when thrown high off your seat and land in a crumpled heap on the hard wood deck on your old arthritic bones. After my explanation of how to take a large wake, in words I and volume I cannot print here, He wont do that again. The boat took the wake with no problem, but me, god help me tomorrow. The rest of the trip was uneventful. the boat was loaded on to the trailer ok and returned to store. The next trip is me alone, did all go well, er not quiet but that's for the next thread. thread lines all Cliff.

Re: Silver Lady first trip continues Unlucky Cliff. Look at this way, if you get all the drama and blanking over and done with on the first few trips, the only thing that is left is smooth trips and masses of fish!! ![]() Looking forward to the next installement. Well done mate! ![]() __________________ Right then, checklist: Rods. Check. Reels. Check. Speckled Hen. Check. Bait…… BAIT! Sh*t, where’s the bait?

Better luck next time. Glad to hear the boat performed well though. I know how worrying first trips can be. Be nice to see some pics. Great read though... __________________ Don't Judge My Path If You Haven't Walked My Journey...
