Question Boat fishing / launching St Davids area

Planning on going Camping near St Davids in June. I also intend taking my boat along (16' Orkney) Can anyone give me any advice on launching & fishing in the area please. Also be nice to meet up with any other boat owners in the area.

Re: Boat fishing / launching St Davids area

You could probably launch at Milford Haven, if its a rough day just fish in the haven, you may also be able to launch at solva harbour, fishing around bird sh*t Island (grassholm) usually gets a few fish, sorry I ain't got more knowledge of boat launching in that area but there are lots of fishing areas just depends on what you want.

If you need more info on the fishing in that area PM me and I will try to remember fishing around that area, personally I don't think you will get to many tuna there though

Re: Boat fishing / launching St Davids area

Nearest slipway is Porthclaise Harbour but it is uneven, requires two and a good 4by4. If you got both then its good, last june we got Pollock,Mackeral, and Bass, The sea is nice and clear but watch out for hidden reefs best look at low tide so you can see where they are before you go out. Next nearest is Whitesands it has a good sandy beach so 4by4 again 15min drive from St David. Porthclaise campsite was also very nice, it's a 20min walk to St David I tried to upload a picture of the campsite and small harbour (Can't find how to) Look at google earth 51/52/09.10"N 5/16/45.28W zoom in and you can see the harbour and campsite.

I was at Porthclais farm campsite last June too. Were one of the guys staying in the small tent who had the boat? Think we may have had a chat.

Re: Boat fishing / launching St Davids area

I had my own tent (orange) but did go out with the two guys with there own boat.
When we came back in due to the rough slipway the boat slipped off the trailer and damaged it slightly, it took three of us to get it back on (after jumping into the water).
It was still worth it and gave us a topic in the pub.
