| Monday 15th Out on Monday if the weather holds and its a reasonable tide - will try a few wrecks but wanted to know if the Skerries would have any decent whiting on it - if so what bait - makeral freelined or are they bottom feeders - only ever had them in the Bristol Channel when codding so any advice on them would be great. Also is there any sign of the makeral yet - I know its still very cold so I guess theyll be out round the wrecks as well ? | Re: Monday 15th As to whiting they are botom feeders or feeding within a few feet of the bottom, they tend to like mackerel (about finger to thumb nail size depending on the size of fish) as bait fished on paternosters or hookeye rigs if they are there you should get them, best times of the tide tend to be coming up on slack generally two hours before and an hour after. I will probably be told how wrong this info is. |
