Tohatsu outboards Anyone out there have any views on them, know if they're good or bad? I ask because they're two thirds the price of most others and half of Honda.

Re: Tohatsu outboards Great engines but only limited dealer backup. They are the only engines I know that are warrantied for racing which must say something. The Zap Cats that race round here use them In the 2 strokes the major manufacturers ie Merc, Yam, Suzuki.....used to use tohatsu and put their own fairings and badges on them in the smaller sizes. I read somewhere that the 4 stroke Tohatsu is a rebadged Suzuki but can't recall where I read it. Memory is not what it used to be. If that is right it is a bargain.

Re: Tohatsu outboards Yeah, great engines. I have a 3.5hp Tohatsu backup and it starts easily and is very economical. Brand new 2 years ago and totally reliable. My father has a 25hp Tohatsu on his Plymouth Pilot and he swears by them. If you send away for brochures (if not on the web) I seem to recall that the japanese commercial boats use them. Happy New Year. Jules. __________________ born to fish....forced to work

Re: Tohatsu outboards Found the article and I was wrong. Tohatsu make their own 4 strokes. It is Selva that use Yamaha for their 4 strokes and Evenrude use Suzuki. Sorry about the mistake. The Tohatsu injected 50 HP 2 stroke gets a superb review Tohatsu are made by Nissan http://www.nissanmarine.com/ For Selva http://www.selvamarine.co.uk/
