whats the crack with braid?

Is it worth changing from mono to braid? Do I need mono backing on my reel and is there a trick to tying it?

On a boat its a must in my eyes

I like it for spinning, but would not like to use it for softer mouthed fish such as carp, chub or barbel.
Its a must when boat fishing.

I've been using it for beach casting, and it's a struggle. It is a nightmare to knot, a nightmare to tie a leader to, it tangles at the drop of a hat and it frays. But it casts for miles and miles! But all of the issues I have with it might be due to my inexperience and poor skill, so I'm pushing on for now.

I assume it tangles on boats as well as it does on land

Spools over running will do so, but you are generally using multipliers n board, fixed spools on the beach are worse.

Braid needs to be kept wet to stop the wind knots and help casts also dont spool up to the lip on the spool.

Would only use it for spinnin or fishing at range e.g 120yrds+
Braid has no strech like mono and also a lower dia than mono.

Bit the bullet and bought a spool of berkley whiplash, just need a day out to try it now.
