Exmouth to Poole - Summer cod

Just wandered if anyone has any idea how long it takes a charter to get from Exmouth to the Brittle Star Grounds off Poole - where the summer cod fishing was amazing last summer ? Do any charters from Exmouth or Dartmouth bother going to this area for the cod - I know Shande had an excellent cod day with Drew and Daryl on board in the summer but I dont think that was in this area - was it a wreck Drew ?

Just interested to try and get some good cod action in the summer.

Re: Exmouth to Poole - Summer cod

Hi Tommy,

It is about 72 miles from Exmouth to the Brittle Star Grounds, a little too far to travel on a charter boat.

Regards

Drew

Re: Exmouth to Poole - Summer cod

I'm sure you've thought of this but it would probably be better driving to Weymouth or Poole and getting a charter from there.

Re: Exmouth to Poole - Summer cod

"was it a wreck Drew ?"

Hi Tommy,

From what I recollect, no, it was rough ground. We were using lures, hitting the bottom and winding 5 turns and then bottom again.

Perhaps if Darrel reads this he will clarify the situation.

Regards

Drew

Re: Exmouth to Poole - Summer cod

Hi Guys, we were fishing some of the wrecks Shande usually fishes on his way to Alderney. Its a bit of a trek out & back but although they are not always succesful i can't complain. And if my memory serves me well i even caught a couple for the skipper and that doesn't happen often. I have heard the needdles is fishing very well at the moment.

I have had a couple of trips out in the last two months, a couple of average sized pollock etc.

Hopefully will get to meet you Tommy in 2010, once the dreaded redunancies finish at work and if i still have a job i will plan a couple of trips with Shande, maybe a pollock trip at the end of Feb, i'll let you know.

regards

Darrel
