advice needed Hello, I have recently been looking for a new rod since the last one is currently residing at the bottom of the north sea, however i am completely clueless as to what to get. All my fishing is done off my Dad's boat, so any suggestions/recommendations on what type of rod/reel would be greatly appreciated. I have been looking round, and have found this deal. Is it any good or should i be looking for something different? http://www.tacklebargains.co.uk/acat...ods.html#a3572 Cheers for any help.

Re: advice needed Mackerel and cod in one rod poss but lets say cod then mackerel as you are on a budget, weve all been there infact we still are. Anyway cod and mackerel in that order. 30lb uglystick cost £35 7=8foot long, cheap but i use it and it catches dogs, ray, cod, pollock etc and heaps of mackerel as thats what i use to catch the fish on. A skate of 150lb 3 years ago nwas landed on same rod not mine but i was there when it was. Now reel, your on a boat so a wee lob over the side i use a slosh 20 thats light boat and thats cod and fish say up to 50lb easy and a bit more but will cover you no probs. Load it with 30lb braid and then put on 15foot 80lb shockleader. Tight lines. Paul. Set up is a very good set up, and rigs and weights if not sure ask away.

Re: advice needed On a boat you dont have to worry about casting to much if its just you and your dad but in a match it does a wee bit, tip/1st to the sent trail, but even then its 15 yards tops, if you and your dad ever go pollock fishing get back to me, cheap and chearful and great fun from a boat. Paul.

Re: advice needed A 12/20lb class uptider and a reel something like a daiwa slosh is a good all round outfit for general inshore fishing ( i have had tope over 45lb on this outfit ) . Fill the reel with something like dynon 3000 ( 28lb b/s ) and attach a rubbing leader of 25lb mono twice the length of the rod. this helps with general abrasion at the business end and acts as a shock leader. Like said above,it all depends on how much cash you wanna splash ! though i bought and old silstar uptider donkeys years ago for 30 squid and its still catchin pollack over 15lb .. Glasgow angling centre do some good combos but remember you generally get what you pay for . A 30lb class rod of about 7' will handle almost anything you might hook but is pants if your fishing for summer species or faffing around inshore so go for something you are going to enjoy fishing with. My weapon of choice is an abu elite uptider with the butt cut down short ( about 12" removed ) which is good enough for tope and cod to 25lb but still great fun when fishing for black bream inshore. __________________ Shore Species 2012: Dab-Flounder-Herring-L.S.Dogfish-Pouting-Shore Rockling-5 Bearded Rockling-Small Eyed Ray-Turbot-Whiting

Re: advice needed I have 3 rods for the boat one for lead heading for pollock etc 15lb class spinning rod with fixspool loaded with 15lb mono and 3 foot leader 12lb braking strain. I have 30lb class rod for summer fishing for ray - tope - spurdog etc. and my 3rd rod is 10 foot uptider if it gets a bit chopy. You want to see the bend in the 30lb ugly stick cost new £35 soft tip bent like a u. Na when i was skate fishing i used a 50lb ugly stick one piece stand up custom ![]() 5foot 9inchs cost new £150 and stiff as a concrete pole. Two totaly different rods on a huge scale. Yes fish light your right and the set up i gave him is the same at world level. Good advise given. Paul. Boat species this summer- 7 ray - 34 pollock- 4 sand dab- 18 dogs - 9 gurnard- 3 spurdog- mackerel for bait. Bad season really due to bad weather some competitions were cancled- thats 3 outings. Chap is on a budget one rod soft fiberglass tip, skate rod has not. By the way ive never blanked a boat and thats in 8 years at match level. I fish with the best with world class standard boat anglers. Thanks guys. No offence mate. Paul.Last edited by paul p; 12-02-2009 at 12:12 PM. Reason: Spelling error
