Question advice please

Hi all I'm new to boat fishing been on a couple of charter boats and am completely hooked excuse the pun. I'm looking at treating myself to my own boat rod but need some advice on what class of rod to buy. I will mostly be fishing from the welsh coast, I've been looking at the leeda northstar rods but don't know if I should buy a 12-20lb or 20-30lb class. Any advice greatly appreciated.

Re: advice please

roccodog, it all depends on how much you want to spend. For years I had a great general boat setup of a Daiwa 20-30lb class boat rod with Daiwa 175H multiplier loaded with 35lb line. A few booms ect and that was it job done. Many a happy day with that. I later added a Penn no85 reel with 15lb line for lighter fishing. Still only needed the one rod

Recently though I've got into Conger fishing. Now also I take with me a 30-50lb Abu and a Daiwa 600H with braid that I picked up on Ebay for 20 Quid!

It's a great sport innit?

Hi justmark, I've been looking at a leeda northstar rod and okuma convector multiplier, I can get the pair for about 75 quid. its just the class of rod that I'm unsure about as I would like an all rounder if there is such a thing some people say get a 12-20lb others a 20-30lb so i'm a bit confused as to which would be best.

Re: advice please

IMHO I would go for the 20-30lb as that is a bit more forgiving than the lighter class.

Re: advice please

Advice? Want to get back into boat fishing on the tidal Medway. Have Rod, reel & rigs. Own boat.
Any advice as to good spots to try on Medway and what bait is best to use. Also what are you likely catch in this area? Not new to it but not very experienced either. last time I tried we caught 2 4lb codling, 2 dabs & a Gurnard.
That was with old patenoster 2 hook rig with Lug. Any advice in general would be very welcome! Thanks.
