Hi,

I will be using my boat out of Exmouth in the next few weeks and throughout the summer - has anyone got any idea of good wrecks or fishing points around Exmouth and surrounding area.

I know of the scerries and will hopefully get over there but wandered what wrecks maybe around for decent fishing in the area.

Any help would be great

hi
your best bet would be to get an admiralty chart of the area these show the wrecks and will give you a good idea of the bottom contours, the type of bottom and depth of water even if you have a plotter these are still a good idea as you can work out places to go in the comfort of your own front room.

Hi, I keep my boat moored at Teignmouth and fish the area as often as possible. In fact am going out next Tuesday and thursday. Best advice for finding marks? Get hold of a copy of the book 'Shipwreck guide to lyme bay for divers and skippers' by nigel clarke 01297 442513. Available most seaside fishing tackle shops chandlers and dive shops. You will also need a gps, but perhaps youve got one. Just a taster: Galacia Position 50 33 58n 03 26 37w. steamship, 5922 tons size 400ft x 50ft depth 20 mtrs. The wreck lies on a sandy seabed and there is extensive marine life. This wreck is about 6 miles from exmouth but the downside is that it is absolutely covered with divers summer weekends. The sandbanks off teignmouth hold masses of bass and orestone rock off torbay is good for general rough ground fishing. Good luck and tight lines

Newbia,

Thanks for the information. Just got round to responding - I have now got marks for seven wrecks out of Exmouth and our GPS is ready and raring along with us !!

Looking for them bass this summer - so you reckon sands banks off Teignmouth are the business eh - Ill give it a go - when do they start showing ? Fresh peeler or sand eel the best bait ?

my guess would be live sandeel on a 12-15ft trace with a small ball weight.
that is what we use from the boat inside thatcher rock and around the orestone for the bass if and when i ever get chance to go out in the boat
just drop the lead over too the bottom wind it up a few turns and drift hope and pray a little and have a cup of coffee that usually works best

Thanks for the info - I havent used live sand eel yet but will try and get some, otherwise its the usual frozen sand eel. :)
