Rushy is on a distinguished road
Morecambe Dinghy Match Sun 20th Sept

Due to the size of the tide, 10m, the main decision of the day was whether to fish Blackpool or Barrow

Me and Bill decided to plump for Blackpool and hope to land a few cod in amongst the expected doggies

Very first cast to fresh black tipped with blow lug....

Not big, just over 2lb but it boded well for the rest of the day....we thought!

Seeing as there were coddos about we hedged our bets and put fresh peeler on tipped off with fresh black hoping to wheedle out a better stamp of fish......the very next cast, the rod tip double over and a hard fighting fish came to the net

Ok ...not the hoped for Cod but a very welcome excursion from the dreaded dogfish...plus another species for the hunt...Starry Smoothound

That was the end of any excitement as dogfish after dogfish after dogfish came to the boat after landing about thirty between us (felt like 60!) we plumped for a move back to Morecambe and to get amongst the Plaice down the bottom end

Not to be!! NO plaice at all were to be had...just pin whiting and a snotty eel......

another species for the list

Then as we were reeling in to move, this came up on a size 1 hook .........

Strange but true.....

The fishing slowed right down when we moved down to Throbshire......just very small Plaice and a 4 oz Dab

Whispers were coming back from Barrow way that Wayne had caught a decent cod, plus species other than dogfish  so it seems that on a big tide, Barrow is the venue to go until the dogfish plague leaves Blackpool

Results

As it was a COD match, the species for First Prize of £15

The winner was Wayne Friend with a fish of 4lb 2oz

Species for Second Prize of £6 was.............DAB
The winner of this category was Dave Rushworth with a weight of 4oz

Third Prize of £6 was.................. FLOUNDER
Winner Mick Williams with a fish of 14oz

Winners of the optional pool prize of £10 was the boat Dad and Lad owned by Frank and Gary Gribbin

Line up of some of the notable catches....

The match winner Wayne Friend with his 4lb Codling caught off Walney

Some fish from the day...

Some more images from the day.....

A big thank you to all the boats that attended and everyone who helped with the launching and retrieving
