| Best rod for boat fishing. I have 2 choices Just wondered what might be considered the best boat rod, capable of 1) being strong and up to the task, and 2) not being too cumbersome 1) My fave rod. 10 foot daiwa uptider. My "daily" fisher 2) A random 6 foot boat rod I have. Fairly sturdy 1 piece affair Any opinions? Both would be used with a fairly simple shakespeare multiplier. __________________ Jason - Got the flavour for fishing back! |

| Re: Best rod for boat fishing. I have 2 choices Hi Jason, In my opinion, as stated in a previous thread, the uptides rods are the most versatile of all the sea fishing rods. I'm glad that you are happy with yours. There is no such thing as the best rod on the market, we all have our favourite manufacturer of rods, and we also have our own favourite rods. It is impossible for anyone to recommend a particular rod to anybody else, my favourite rod might be a nightmare of a rod as far as you are concerned. I like the Daiwa Kenzaki Braid rods i.e. 6 - 12, 12 - 20, 20 - 30. The rods that I tend to use all the time are Daiwa Interline rods 12 - 20 for all my Pollock fishing and the 12 - 30 for heavier work e.g. when anchored near to a wreck for Conger and Ling. Might I suggest that if you are thinking about buying a new rod, book yourself on a fishing trip with a charter skipper who is sponsored by one of the rod manufacturers. That way you can try, FREE OF CHARGE, all the rods and reels manufactured by the sponsor. That also includes all the end tackle. | Re: Best rod for boat fishing. I have 2 choices Good idea, Drew I've been outside to get more info on the 6 foot thing. It's a masterline rod. Rated to 12lb, so sounds like it's perhaps not the best (Can the 12lb rating be "stretched". I think the uptider would be better (I have two the same now... embarrassed) __________________ Jason - Got the flavour for fishing back! |
