Charters out of Exmouth? Wondered if anyone had used one? Was down there after work on my MTB to try and seek out where & how the live sandeels come in. I saw Shande III manouvering, but interestingly saw Blue Thunder land from a trip and a couple of guys had some BIG pollack. £45 for a midweek day out sounds like reasonable value to me, especially if I can bring back a shedload of fish to stick in the freezer. __________________ Jason - Got the flavour for fishing back!

Re: Charters out of Exmouth? Hi Jason, I was out on Shande lll with DarrelC from this forum a few weeks ago. It was my first time out on this particular boat, but will not be the last. Ian Goff is an excellent skipper and certainly put us on the fish. In total we had 85 Cod between 9 of us, I personally had 16. There was a few Pollock brought aboard but why fish for Pollock when Cod are available. Regards Drew __________________ All that Glitters is not Gold Secretary of The Blandford Sea Angling Club

Re: Charters out of Exmouth? From looking online Shande III appears to cater more for 3 / 4 day trips to the Channel Islands, etc. Will be keeping my eye on this as for £45 I could have a great day's fishing and a serious amount of fish for the freezer. __________________ Jason - Got the flavour for fishing back!

Re: Charters out of Exmouth? Hi, Value for money you would would be better going out from Dartmouth. Exmouth skippers have to pass Dartmouth on the way out and it takes an hour by sea to travel from Exmouth to Dartmouth. By going out from Dartmouth you cut down your sea travelling time by an hour. On the other hand If you want a good skipper then you have to go out from where he is berthed. All skippers charge by the distance they travel and by how much fuel they use. If a skipper keeps his speed down to say 12 knots he will not use as much fuel as a skipper travelling at 18 knots, he will then charge less for his charters and your fishing time is cut down. All in all it is entirely up to you. Regards Drew __________________ All that Glitters is not Gold Secretary of The Blandford Sea Angling Club Last edited by Drew; 06-03-2009 at 08:41 PM.

Re: Charters out of Exmouth? Probably takes an hour to travel from Exmouth to Dartmouth by road too, thanks to the Exe Estuary and rubbish roads from Torbay down to Dartmouth. hehe. There was a chap on here talking about trips out of Brixham on his own boat, but not sure if that came to anything. __________________ Jason - Got the flavour for fishing back!

Re: Charters out of Exmouth? Chaps - interesting talk but I agree with Drew - plus Ive come round to the thinking that the cat boats are better for fishing due to the large amount of space on them and none of the Exmouth boats are twin hulled are they ? That said I have every intention of trying Shande as Ive heard he is good but if they are passing Dartmouth then get on board Gemini and get out with Dave - he seems pretty good and Drew knows him well. If you are looking at a mid week date me and my old man would join you as will Drew so we could all book something up together ? __________________ So near yet so far - Wembley 2008 - Zideered Right Up !

Re: Charters out of Exmouth? I can book off midweek days at short notice for the right deal, and as long as I'm not booked out on audits. __________________ Jason - Got the flavour for fishing back!

Re: Charters out of Exmouth? Well, I suppose it's not just price as I know you pay for good skipper knowledge and a fast, sturdy boat. I've seen individual trips @ £45 per person for a full day, which would be fine for me for an Exmouth based trip and to take home a good haul of pollack/cod/ (bass???) for the freezer. There was a chap talking about going out of Brixham on his own boat and it costing just a tenner to cover diesel, but that seemed unbelievable at the time. __________________ Jason - Got the flavour for fishing back!

Re: Charters out of Exmouth? Jason, Gauranteeing fish even on a charter is not always possible - as Drew will tell you mate - you do get blank days or low levels of fish !! At the end of the day £ 45 is a bloody good price for day out and that is after all what it is - a day afloat with like minded people who are there for a laugh and hopefully a few fish. I would recommend booking a day out with a few of us in the tail end of summer and chase the cod, pollack or bass or whatever tickles your line - and see what you think of it. There are a few good dates in August for bass fishing on True Blue if you are interested - Im happy to make some further investigations - we already have you, me, dad and drew plus I know of two others for definite - we could charter the boat and fish as we wish including for the cod if anyone wants to ? __________________ So near yet so far - Wembley 2008 - Zideered Right Up !
