and if anyone knows a boat yard in Cornwall or Devon that deal in small cheap boats, that would be useful .[/QUOTE]

have you tried www.boatsandoutboards.co.uk or www.apploduck.co.uk

there are a few fishing boats on there.

Re: I'm thinking of buying a boat.

The big problem with cathedral hulled boats is water ingress between the deck and hull which soaks the foam and makes them heavy. I had to rebuild my dory because of this problem and it wasn't easy.

Weight is an important factor when chosing a boat for another good reason. If the boat and trailer combined weigh more that 750kg you will have to have a braked trailer. I have found to my cost that braked trailers do not like being immersed in sea water and the brakes/cables are prone to seize.

I don't think you will buy a decent boat and trailer combo for £1,500 - you will buy someone elses troubles.

Have a look on http://www.findafishingboat.com/

Re: I'm thinking of buying a boat.

hi in responce to wildcards thread he is right i bought a boat for £1500
it looked a top boat but just this week i have spent a lot of money on it
engine packed in was told it was a great engine first time out it packed in
needed new steering as one on the boat was stiff thought it was just needed greasing no such luck nackered ( replaced ) so if you buying a boat check it well over and get a test run in it go over it twice

Re: I'm thinking of buying a boat.

must add to the tails of woe. i bought a boat last month and while it was at a bargain price, the bill to bring it up to condition i would like it to be in is mounting up considerably. the stern drive unit needed new gaitors, new gimball bearing and 2 new universal joints, the fuel pump packed up and was replaced, the trim struts needed replacing and i have just shelled out for new hubs, bearings and wheel galvanising on the trailer.

when they work though they are simply amazing, they aint thrifty but they are fun.

hi philipn,

you could be right there mate, but then again yesterday i went out to wet a line, caught a shed load and managed to get a bit of wake boarding in on the way back. i would need some serious time in the gym to get a yak to pull someone
