Talking Electric Blue Lymington charter boat trip

Electric Blue Lymington charter boat trip 7/11/2004
( my little post on the day )

First of all massive thank you to Bret for organizing the trip plus bait and a great curry - Electric Blue Lymington charter boat trip

The day started off with the alarm clock going off at 4.30am. A quick cup and coffee and I was on my way to Lymington , great thing with charter boat trips on Sundays you will never get bad traffic problems ( something always to bare in mind especially in the summer months )

I arrived at Lymington at the same time as the rest of the guys and after a quick hunt around we found the marina which is a little tricky because Lymington one way system can send you around in circles (especially if not fully awake) | Click For Map |

The Lymington marina has plenty of parking and cost about £5.00 all-day, but was free as all the machines were tapped up (bounce saving money already)

As a side note for small boat owners Lymington marina has a great slip way for launching your boats and the car park is big enough to park / manoeuvre your trailers with easy. I did not find out if there is a charge for using the slip way sorry

So after a little wait for a late arrival we steamed out to our mark. I had a little go on the helm whilst Rob sorted out the bits and you could tell that he was impressed with my skill

About 40 minutes later we anchored up on the cod mark

Baits
Squid / Cuttle fish / Mackerel / Lug / Rag / Peeler crab
Rigs
Flowing traces with hooks from 0/4 to 10/0 dressed with Muppets beads
Rods
15 / 30 lb downtiders

We all started with squid loaded hooks as the cod like them in bunches of 3 – 10 on a hook on this mark. Things were slow and the knocks indicated that there where small fish having a go at the squid so Andyg was on mackerel strips on 4/0 hooks and soon started to bring in doggies

We tried everything we could to see if we could get the cod to feed but at the end of the day they were just not in the mood. Listening to the radio as I do, I could hear that the Solent just was not catching on this day. So with this in mind we all had a go on mackerel strips and got into doggies

Andyg had a turn up for the books with a tope in November (a Smoothound was caught on another boat) what is going on at the moment is anyone guess

Overall it was a bit slow but this time of year things seem to be a bit hit and miss

The biggest cod we heard of on the day was 15lb caught by a dingy angler (boy would he be made up)

We ended the day with a shandy in a pub that is very handy next to the car park which was clean and was serving food . Andyg got the round in with his winnings

The Boat – Electric Blue
Lochin 333. Twin engine 600hp 28 knots
MCA 60 Mile Licence. All year 24 Hours. 12 passengers plus crew.
| Contact Info |

- Good room for eight anglers (just do not go overboard on tackle boxes)
- Nice change to have proper rod holders (hate plastic things)
- Microwave / hot water (just remember if you are taking food for the microwave to ask rob before hand and clean it afterwards)
- Great big cutting board on the deck that is waist height which is so much better than everyone fiddling with individual boards
- Stable and quick ride
- The skipper Rob is a great guy and is always willing to help (talks for England)

So - great selected boat Bret and thank you Rob for the days fishing and I know we will be rebooking another trip or two within the next 6 months or so cheers

Thanks to everyone on board as yet again great company and boy did I laugh

Ben - great photos and thanks mate | Click Here |

Re: Electric Blue Lymington charter boat trip

Very nice write up. Shame about the fish but I bet the day out on a boat is still a good 2nd best.

Re: Electric Blue Lymington charter boat trip

Great bunch of guys to fish with, nice boat and skipper. Have to re-iterate Richards comment that, nothing was too much trouble for him. Good find Brett.

Big thanks to Brett for arranging the trip and a fine curry.

Side note: if anyone ever has the idea of trailing off their newly loaded braided line behind a fast moving boat so that you can rewind under tension so it beds in properly, DON'T use anything other than a small metal clip attached to the line.

I had a small plastic zip slider on mine and I've never seen line strip off a reel so quickly, and rewinding it back on again was one of the toughest things I have done while fishing. It was like reeling in a 300lb Tuna.
