my new boat!! woo hoo

hi all.

i finally fullfilled one of my dreams when i bought this boat with my mate dan (the machine)

been a long time coming but im dead chuffed to be a proud boat owner!

now for the tricky bit. could anyone tell me what i am required by law to do/pass/buy before i can take her to sea? i understand the basics, lifejackets, oars, flares etc. but any other help would be great.

i know some of you are proberly thinking "why buy a boat if yo know nothing about them". but you have to strike when the irons hot and have a bit of spare cash. i figure some of it i will learn on the way.

some more pics.

ohh. if anyone knows anything about this engine, any help would be super. i was told its 40-1. again, if you could break down that nugget of info for me, i would appricate it.

one final thing. how about this for a new boat owners boat name!! (we dident pick it!!

You've only linked to the page itself - You need to link to the actual photo on each one.. Then [img] tag them - like this.

Re: my new boat!! woo hoo

I do like solving problems in I.T anyway. LOL. One day I will own a boat to go fishing with, but at the moment I cannot afford to buy/run/store/trailer one. And my car is unable to even have a tow hitch fitted..

Re: my new boat!! woo hoo

Well done mate I remember getting my first boat and spent the whole winter doing her up - its a brilliant feeling getting out on the water. My biggest bit of advice would be to get the outboard serviced and thoroughly checked -that is assuming the boat is sound.

Then if you feel happy get out there but remember to be sensible and dont go hammering aorund on water you dont know or if the mist comes down - boats can be lethal ! But being sensible and having all the kit like youve mentioned will be great - you could always do a course for power boats or simular - most waterside hire places will point you in the right direction -= worth while doing if its your first time.

Enjoy anyway.

Re: my new boat!! woo hoo

I can reccomend the RYA level 2 powerboat course. You will learn so much in 2 days. Well worth the money.

My first boat was a 14ft Wilson Flyer. I had great fun in her. I hope to get myself a new boat at the end of next month (fingers crossed). I am looking for another Wilson Flyer or something similai.r

Re: my new boat!! woo hoo

Hi, everyone just to add to Steve's (the boss) question. Ive been looking up about getting a radio and heard that a course is an essential. Is this true? We are really hoping to set out in it in a couple of month's but obviously want to check it floats first. Does anyone have any knowledge of places we could test it. I live in Glastonbury, Somerset. Also my final question does anyone know where I can find out information on prices of launching boats into places like : Lyme regis, Weymouth etc. Thank you ever so much for reading. Cheers.
