| A Day on Flamer lll Hi Guys & Galls, The great news came on Sunday evening “The trip is on”. After numerous call offs during the past few weeks e.g. Dartmouth, my Pollock – Ling trip with Colin Penny on Flamer lll was on. I was met by Colin at the gates to the North Pontoon at 0645 and directed to a free parking spot for the day, I was first on board but soon afterwards the others started to arrive, a grand total of 12. One of the others was Dave Roberts, skipper of Aly Kat out of Minehead whom I had met several times before, he was writing an article for the Sea Angler magazine. After introductions, we set off on our journey of 25 miles to our first mark, it was then that my thoughts were proved right; there were far too many anglers on board. Unfortunately there is not enough space on the boat for 12 anglers with all their boxes, bags etc. plus crew. The fishing during the day was excellent, everyone was into Pollock and Ling, there were the inevitable Pouting plus a single 8lb Cod. At the time we started to fish for the Ling I already had 5 Pollock to 12lbs and decided that enough was enough and sat the Ling fishing out, however when we had another few drifts for Pollock before setting off for home, I bagged another 10 pounder. Generally speaking we all had an excellent day out, the weather couldn’t have been better and as I have said, everyone caught fish. Colin was a great skipper (one of the best), the boat was comfortable, unfortunately there were far too many people on board. I see from his newsletter that I have just received this morning that he restricts the Bass/Bream trips to 9 anglers. Yes! I will book another trip with him, probably a Bream/Bass outing with less anglers on board. Regards Drew __________________ All that Glitters is not Gold Secretary of The Blandford Sea Angling Club |

| Glad to hear you had a good trip Drew. Pity about the overcrowding situation. I imagine it must be a difficult balancing act for skippers like Colin to keep cover fuel costs for long distance wrecking trips without pricing anglers off the boat. Obviously having more people aboard keeps prices down, but at a cost of comfort. I was discussing this problem with Josh Simminds, skipper of Revolution, last time I fished Weymouth. Hopefully your Black Bream trips will be cheaper & more comfortable, as they only usually have a short trip to Ringstead bay to find the fish & use accordingly less fuel. __________________ Don't Judge My Path If You Haven't Walked My Journey... |
