| Help me find inshore marks Portland ! Hi guys I've been a keen fisherman since the early days of my childhood, and have been a hooked by inshore boat fishing out of Weymouth since my brother and father purchased a 19 foot Orkney. There are many famous marks such as the Shambles bank just off shore but in rough weather they are out of the question for our small boat. I am wondering if anyone can help me with finding some good marks in my area. I love all kinds of species fishing especially bass, cod and flat fish. HELP ME PLEASE!!! Thanks ! f ![]() |

| Re: Help me find inshore marks Portland ! hi Matt, I've got a few for you, I used to trail my boat down to the ferrybridge slipway so did some scouting round. Ringstead ledge is a 30' ridge (shows great on sounder) good for bass daytime and conger night time. The wreck of HMS Hood in the south entrance to Portland harbour fishes well but divers are a problem. The main entrance to Portland can produce just drifting through, or anchor outside the fort, especially if the wind is southerly. THIS IS A DANGEROUS PLACE>>>The Portland race, best place possible for big bass. ONLY visit at the end of a neap flood in calm conditions. DON'T under any circumstance fish the ebb or you will capsize your boat. Drift with live sandeels or mackerel. Grove Point about a third of the way down Portland Bill, rocky ledges and good wrasse country. Best of luck Jules __________________ born to fish....forced to work |
