Re: crossing channel info Hi Peter not certain, but last year when I was on a boat out of Minehead the skipper said they don't usually get they up that far as the water is too chocolatey. with all the recent floods I should think it is dirtier than ever. Best of luck wherever you go ![]() __________________ Spahill <:--- --- --- --- It was this big --- --- --- ---:>

Re: crossing channel info got the 8am lock out of cardiff and headed down to foreland point, trip down took about 21/2 hrs. when we got there saw a few other cardiff boats already fishing.after a few drifts we caught afew mackies. listening in on the radio heard off other boats that a few bass had been caught but didnt manage any ourselves. also learnt that live sandeels seem to be the best bait. at about 1pm we saw a boat approaching us (apache) warning us of some heavy swells forecasted and suggested we followed him back over the otherside so we could watch out for each other on the way back. turned out to be good advise as half way back was faced with some quite nasty swells. big thank you to apache for the info, another good lesson learnt as to always be safe. fished at aberthaw for a while catching a couple of doggies and my first spotted ray before heading back to cardiff seeing the lady helen fishing around sully. all in all quite enjoyable day havving never fished on the drift before, still a bit to learn though and once again thank you to apache for their help. plugger ![]() ![]() peter __________________ if at first you dont succeed buy a boat. peter

Re: crossing channel info Hi plugger, Fishing Foreland on the drift, try heading straight out to sea from the point and you'll spot a reef on the sounder coming up about 20ft. Worth a drift with eels, artificials or live ragworm for bass. Slow drifts in the ebb tide shade just in Lynmouth Bay is over mixed ground, can pick up flatties and gurnards for some variety. All along the coast as far as Porlock Wier is rocky ground with some deep gullies on the chart - conger, wrasse and huss territory at anchor, mackerel are there too but only in the blue water. In Porlock Bay, there's a clear divide between blue channel and brown river water, feathering in the brown is a waste of time but the mackerel reach that far up in the blue stuff. Steve
