"I had a Bream!" 4-30am Sunday morning is no time for an alarm to sound, but there it was bleeping away, we had an early start to get to Weymouth for 7 to meet up with Ian. After the ritual visit to the tackle shop to stock up ( more tackle!!! and some bait) we drove round to the boat and loaded kit on board. We were soon motoring out of the harbour and heading round to the bream hoptsot that Josh, the skipper of the Revolution, had fished the previous day. Here you can see the trip out ![]() ![]() We arrived about 45 minutes later and anchored off the cliffs, with lightening cracking out to sea and the edge of the weather coming toward us. ![]() ![]() We were advised by Nigel to use a Portland rig with a 10ft snood and small squid as bait. Here are two serious anglers discussing tactics ![]() We were using light leads and letting the current take them across the fishing ground by bumping along the bottom. before long the fish started to take, those who were fishing worm were hitting Ballan Wrasse, and those on the squid were getting Bream. Here are some of our catches. ![]() ![]() ![]() We had a small shower, then sunshine, then the mist surrounded us, we moved marks again when the bites became scarce and hit more bream. We all had a good catch , at least 5 a piece, the females were returned and the better sized males were kept, both Claudia and I kept one but the rest of our catches were returned safe and sound. At the end of the day we had a quick drift over a couple of wrecks in search of Pollock. I had no luck, but on the last drift Claudia managed to hook the wreck, and whilst struggling to free the line let it slack off, it freed and she reeled in saying it did not feel right, and as the leader finally surfaced she had a small Pollock on the line. ![]() We got back and we were all rather shattered so with a long drive home we headed off and reflected on a good days fishing in great company. We would especially like to thank Nigel for all the time he spent showing and tying rigs for everyone, and taking the time to show some of the finer points of boat fishing to the less experienced of us, you are a top man. __________________ If you want the rainbow, then you have to put up with the rain

Re: "I had a Bream!" What can I say, a great day in great company. I'm starting to get used to this boat fishing palava, again I managed to catch a couple of fish without groundbaiting lol. A mahoooosive thanks to Nigel, top guy who spent all day chasing after us, tying rigs, explaining what where and how and still managed to catch more fish than most of us in between. And before anyone makes any stupid comments, no I wasn't drunk in the pics with the pollock, just totally exhausted ......definitely getting old now lol __________________ There is certainly something in angling that tends to produce a serenity of the mind." - Washington Irving

Sweet Breams are made of this...... Yes, a good time was had by all. The sea was as calm as a millpond on the way out, but the rain soon arrived, along with a cracking little thunder storm. When the sun did show though, it was really warm. Waterproofs came on & off faster than a lady of ill repute's knickers... First we anchored up off Worlbarrow bay, where the fish came slowly but surely & were of good size. When the bites dried up there we moved off to another Reef mark, where the bites came thick & Fast, but the fish were generally smaller. Josh, the skipper of the boat worked hard & always managed to keep us over fish. It was nice to meet new Forum Member Anticod (Nigel) too. And thanks for all the advice mate. "Thats what's so great about this Forum" All in all another great Forum mini-meet. The Bream tasted great too... Oh, & Claudia, I think that Pollocks a Pout... Good fish though.

Re: "I had a Bream!" Great report. I loved the before and after pictures of the Bream. Sorry to say the Pollock is in fact a Pout. Next time ask him to drift over the wreck of HMS Hood in the entrance to Portland harbour. You will get your Pollock there.
