Thornback ray

Im out fishing the goodwin sands tommorow ( weather permiting) Anyone got any good tips ..... tackle set up , best bait ?

my methods for ray are pulley rigs with 3/0 0r 4/0 hooks and good old mackeral for bait ...i use the tail end of the mackeral ie i slice into the mackeral about a third of the way up the fish and slice it right to the tail end then just hook it right at the end, once !! (skin side first) so the mackeral is hanging down ,this will stop the bait moving and twisting up the line !!! good luck

On the boat - two sides of mackeral rigged as a flapper or a whole squid on a pennel rig

Keep your traces shortish ( 3 foot ) as you want the bait nailed to the bottom plus change your bait often as the better the sent trail the better the chance of hooking one. If your downtiding then work your bait away from the boat
