New to MULTIPLIER use

Hello out there, can anybody give me some sound advice. I am a very experienced angler but new to BOAT fishing, I have just bought a Shakespeare UglyBoat Multiplier reel 2919 for Deap water off Witby. Before I go back can you give me some basics on usage, I am only used to Spinning reels and Fly reels. Cheers.

Hi Mate,

The use of a multiplier from a boat is relatively easy much easier from the shore.
The basic rules are similar. When letting it down to the bottom, don't just let it run and run in freel spool. cos when it does hit bottom and you have no control, and with 1lb of lead, it will overun.

When letting it down keep your thumb on the top of the spool... then with the other hand release it into free spool.
Keep pressure on with your thumb when doing it. When ready to fish, then ease your thumb pressure off and let your rig and lead smoothly decend on to the bottom. When it hits bottom, engage the spool again.

Quite simple but you must keep slight pressure on the spool when droppimg down.

Hope this helps.

Cheers
Shaun

What Shaun says is right...you will soon get the hang of applying an even pressure so the lead drops smoothly.

Another point is the depths at whitby are huge and it would be a good idea to load the spool with braid rather than nylon....(i think theres a link somewhere on the forum about braid ;P ). It makes a big difference to how well the lead stays under the boat compared to nylon.

Good luck and let us know how you get on. I am fishing at whitby a couple of times a month so give us a wave next time your there

Re: New to MULTIPLIER use

All the advice above is great

I find that once you are on the boat ask the skippers mate to quickly run through how to use the reel - thats what there ment to be there for , to offer advice and not just to unhook the fish

The main thing to remember is as said before is to control the line with your thumb , nice and slow the first few drops till you get used to it

It is easy to do , just needs a little practice

Look forward to hearing how your trip goes

Don't forget the pickies of your first catch mate, i'd love to see them good for you to have something to look back on.

Have lots of fun and if you suffer from the dreaded jelly belly.. STUBERON sets you stomach like concrete!

Don't forget if in doubt ASK.

Cheers
Shaun

Re: New to MULTIPLIER use

When my son recently suffered sea sickness I searched the net looking for an answer.

I came across this quote from Spike Milligan:-

"The best cure for sea sickness is to sit under a tree." :)
