Re: frozen squid

£5 for 5lb which is good i think but expencive if you only buy a small amount (£2.30 for a 1lb box!!!!)
discounts on rag if you buy regularly (gives you free 1s) and usualy rounds down the price

Re: frozen squid

i have just been out to stock up the freezer with frozen baits and was astonished at the ridiculous prices!.

Here in the ne we dont use bait as much as it appears to be used down south and perhaps this reflects in the prices...or maybe i'm just going to the wrong shop

£1.90 per lb for squid
£3.60 for 3 peelers (small)
Frozen mussel (about a cup full and that was mainly water!) £1.60 !!!!!!!!
Swimming crabs £4.20 for 4

i keep reading about hermit crabs but have been unable to find any locally. And I fancy giving them a go as there were thousands on the bottom when we went diving recently at seahouses.

Am I paying over the odds ..perhaps a trip to north shields fish quay may be a better bet ...then spend a day packing it and freezing it in bulk.

Cheers Dave

Re: frozen squid

I live in the ne ...durham area...and am rapidly coming to the conclusion I need to search out a better supplier than my local shop!

Its seems that the closer you get to the sea the cheaper the sea gear gets! And I think a bulk purchase is needed from a fish market to get the best prices.

The price for mussels is absolutely ridiculous imho..they have to be available cheaper elsewhere! Its only £3.20 for a large bag of live ones at tesco's and their open 24/7

Dave
