Any good marks near Exmouth ??

Hi everyone

I'm hoping to swap the BC for some blue water this weekend and take the boat down to Exmouth.

Does anyone know any good marks, wrecks etc. within a few miles of Exmouth or have any advice to offer newbies to the sport on the type of rig, bait etc. to use?

Is it any use targetting the codling yet? They have arrived at the Western end of the Bristol Channel, I believe.

If anyone is fishing that area on Sunday give me a call on VHF - my callsign is JASPER, be;ieve it or not.

Regards

Jasper

Re: Any good marks near Exmouth ??

Jules - what bloody use is that - Jasper wants some marks to fish !!!!

Im not brilliant with marks around Exmouth for the winter except to say the wrecks are always worth a shout - depending on how reliable the boat and engine are try the Boma or local marks around the area. Jules will be able to give you a lot more advice Im sure.

Wherever you decide I hope the winds stay down and arent Easterly !!

Tommy

Very true Tommy!

Sorry Jasper, went on hols on the 6th so was temporarily insane on the 5th.

If you're going again I can let you know some decent marks.

How did you get on?

Jules.

Re: Any good marks near Exmouth ??

The day was a disaster from beginning to end !! because we were not familiar with Exmouth, we launched on a falling spring tide - no problem excpet for quite high winds, but got boat launched fine.
Parked car & trailer & boarded boat at ferry pontoon - pissed off ferryman royally apparently.

Any way, got under way and almost immediately hit big waves and winds causing very uncomfortable ride. When waves started breaking over cabin roof we decided not to head out to sea but to return and fish in the more sheltered waters of the harbour.

Engine started playing up at this time and would not come dowwn to idle when we closed throttle!

Got to harbour and tried a few spots but kept snagging. Lost loads of tackle and one anchor.

Eventually decided to call it a day but found slipway totally inaccessible at low water and very low tide meant it would be hours before we could get out on the trailer again by that route!

Sat around in harbour for a while, then decided to have a go at recovery from the beach, which we did and, with the help of a young surfer, got it out neatly and cleanly behind my 4WD.

Expensive learning curve and nothing to show for it! Enjoyed the fresh air however !!!
